I love this mouth piece. I played on some Yamaha for quite some time and hated (it) - sound, pitch and it required so much effort to get a sound out of it and play notes such as a high E or F. I needed a different mouthpiece. I talked to my band instructor about ordering a new and he recommended the Selmer C* and this E Rousseau New Classic. I researched prices and read reviews and what I found is that the E Rousseau has a darker and richer tone and excellent control that makes it a lot easier to play. Well after numerous hours on the computer I came to the conclusion that this is what I wanted. I ordered it, hoping the mouthpiece would arrive a few days in advance for the winter concert. And so it did, I played in concert band for the first time and amazingly got a real satisfying sound for the first time. I adjusted quickly to the mouth piece and even played on it in the winter concert the following day. My band teacher and I (are pleased).

I read other reviews on how the low notes were easier on this piece than the S-80, but that wasn't my experience. It does play a little louder than the Selmer. Another concern was none of my ligatures fit this mouthpiece correctly. They were too small as this piece is really thick. There are better mouthpieces out there, like the Brilhart, that are cheaper.

Comments about E. Rousseau New Classic Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

Tried this one side by side with a heavily recommended selmer s 80. I got a bigger sound that was easier to produce top to bottom for a third the price. The mouthpiece blows freely. I like NC4 w/ rovner light and vandoren zz 2.5 reed. Has a little edge for a classical piece. This one is worth trying out.

Just received my new NC4 mouthpiece, and am very satisfied. I am a novice player and feel that I am sounding much better with less effort. If you are looking to upgrade your mouthpiece I highly recomend the NC4.

Great Mouthpiece

Comments about E. Rousseau New Classic Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I've had a Rousseau mouthpiece before on Soprano and didn't really like it other than taking away the stuffiness a bit on middle C. After meeting Anna Marie Wytko at a local Honor Band that she was the guest artist of, she recommended this mouthpiece. This mouthpiece is great, the tone quality is fantastic, especially paired with my Cannonball Alto. The intonation is astounding all the way up into the altissimo which comes out better than any mouthpiece that I've owned, even my metal Yanigisawa. I highly recommend this mouthpiece to anyone wanting a new mouthpiece to better their tone quality or wanting a better mouthpiece overall. The price is fantastic for this quality of mouthpiece.

Amazing!

Comments about E. Rousseau New Classic Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I have been playing on a C* for the past four or five years, and i was satisfied with the sound. Recently, though, I heard from my teacher that these E. Rousseau mouthpieces were worth trying, so I tried out the 5R and the NC4 on a V16 3 1/2. The 5R, which i tried first, was more responsive in the low register, but the altissimo range was slightly more difficult than usual. It also had an airy tone. The NC4, on the other hand, gave me the best tone I have ever had, and the best low register I have ever had, with the small expense of a less-responsive altissimo register (which, by the way, had better tone once I finally got the notes out). All in all, this NC4 is the best classical mouthpiece I have ever played on.

Excellent upgrade for any student or professional

Comments about E. Rousseau New Classic Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I have used a Rascher alto mouthpiece since 1972 for orchestral, concert band and wind ensemble work and have never received a complaint from conductors. One of my students started using a Rousseau NC4 and I was impressed with the sound; it's the closest to the Rascher that I've heard with more projection, perfect for the concert band or wind ensemble as it blends well with other instruments.I now recommend this mouthpiece for all of my private students.

Very nice!

Comments about E. Rousseau New Classic Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I tested this alto sax mp (NC5) side by side with a Vandoren Optimum and a metal mp similar to the Otto Link. Both of the HR pieces used a Rovner lig and 2.5 reed. The metal mp had great projection and volume. Certainly the loudest and edgiest of the three. The Rousseau was more mellow and easier to play, and still had decent volume. The Vandoren was in between the two - quite loud and edgy for a HR mp. For orchestra work, the Rousseau will blend nicely, and for mellow solo (not rock or jazz) work it would also do a fine job. The Vandoren would be better for rock/jazz music, and a good choice if a metal mp was just too much volume/edge.

Great Classical Mouthpiece...

Comments about E. Rousseau New Classic Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

This mouthpiece is by far the smoothest and sweetest sounding classical mpc I've ever played on. I'm big into jazz, but I really needed a good classical mpc for symphonic season. This one is the one to buy. The sound is pure and clear. I use this mpc on my Yanigasawa 991 Alto along w/ hemke reeds. It's a great combination. This mpc takes some breaking in, but then again what mpc doesn't?! This is by far the best of the best.

Great Mouthpiece

Comments about E. Rousseau New Classic Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I have tried numerous mouthpieces, from the Selmer C* (both s80 and s90 facings) to Morgan's, and I have found that none give the tone quality and response that the Rousseau NC4 gives. It is truly and exceptional mouthpiece, and something worth looking at, especially if you aren't pleased with the C* line of mouthpieces as I was. Not only do I find this to be true, but a good portion of my Saxophone Studios prefers the Rousseau line of mouthpieces over the Selmer's.

A great mouthpiece for the student looking to step up

Comments about E. Rousseau New Classic Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

This is a surperior mouthpiece especially those students who own a student Yamaha or Bundy alto saxophone. It is by no means of the same quality of a Selmer C* or Vandorean but for the motivated student looking to upgrade from the stock student mouthpiece this is a great alternative.
