I was skeptical to buy a string that was coated with anything thinking that it would deaden the tone, but I finally gave in a tried a set of light gage Elixir Nano for my spare acoustic. I am a ?weekend worrier? and gig a lot. I used to change strings once or twice a month because I love that bright sound and I can?t go to long before my strings start to deaden. That has changed, because Elixirs look, sound and feel like high quality new strings, but although they cost about three bucks more than most they outlive other brands by months and months. I now used Elixirs on my main acoustic as well, but kept the very first set I bought on my spare as an experiment. Five months later and the strings still sound and feel great. Spooky, huh.
I used Elixirs on my small bodied Taylor and found them to be good sounding, long lasting strings. On that lightly braced guitar they sounded similar to other non-coated strings I'd tried. But when I put them on my Martin HD28, they sounded flat and weak. The coating prevented the strings from ringing out properly. I also tried Elixirs on my mandolin and wasn't happy with them. They sounded muffled. They did last longer than regular strings, but the trade off in loss of volume was unacceptable. For the right instrument I believe they'll work great for you.
