it has bad intonation,it is among the cheapest of saxophones, if you are and experienced player, you would know that this is one of the worst saxes out their, please find a more reputable brand, all those other reviews that say this sax is good are from people who have no musical experience. Once you play other reputable saxophones and compare them to this, you will never think about this sax again. The keys on this sax can bend really easy, on a more reputable brand sax, it is much harder for the keys to bend, you do not want to end up buying this sax and have to take it to the repair shop every now and then just because the keys keep getting out of place which cause leaks and make this sax sounds even worst that it already does
Got this for my 6th grade beginning band student works great . Came with everything she needed ie neck strap reeds. Would highly recommend.
I bought this for my son last year when he first entered band. I didn't want to spend a lot of money in the event that he chose not to like the band. The teacher had a nerve to call it cheap, but I proved her wrong with the number of high reviews on this product! This is his second year of band and the instrument is holding up well. I bought the warranty which will repair it should anything major happen to it. I refused to lease an instrument when I could purchase one for a fraction of the price. I recommend this brand of instrument to any one looking for quality savings!
This little horn plays great. This is coming from a Selmer Mark VI tenor and soprano guy. I'm playing this in a community band right now. A Woodwind Series II mouthpiece and a 2 1/2 Rico Plasticover reed, you just can't beat it.
I purchased this product just a few days ago and received it yesterday, it is beautiful! It is of very high quality and definitely worth the money. If you are thinking about purchasing this product, DO, I am so glad that I was able to find this saxophone online, plus it had free shipping so for a very low price, I am so glad I chose to buy this!
This is a beautiful sounding horn! It is most definitely worth the price. If I were you, I would buy this horn. I would get a new neck strap though. It is not comfy, and my saxophone fell off. I caught it, though. I will also recommend grease for putting the gooseneck on the horn. It has a beautifully designed bell.
I purchased this Etude 3 months ago from The Woodwind & Brasswind Company after thorough research & reviews for my 11 year old just starting out with the Alto Saxophone. I can say this without hesitation, this is the best value that you can find anywhere for a high quality instrument. Even the music teacher at my son's school was impressed with the quality & most importantly the sound. She couldn't believe what we paid for it....especially hearing & seeing the quality compared to the higher priced Sax's. Prior to makeing this purchase I called and spoke with a very helpful & knowledgable representative as I was very skeptical of the quality because of the low price. The representative was very patient with me as this was a first time purchase on a brass instrument and I didn't want to make any mistakes. My son is very proud of his new saxophone and when my other son is ready to purchase (whatever instrument he decides to play) an instrument rest assured that my first contact will be with The Windwood & Brasswind Company...they are awesome to do business with!
I'm giving this alto sax 5 stars as far as STUDENT MODELS go. Right out of the sturdy & plush ABS-type carrying case, it has a beautiful looking finish and engraving around and on the bell. Smooth key action throughout all of the keys. Comfortable hand positions, w/ a slight off-set of the right hand which is very much like professional horns! The intonation is close to perfect; the exceptions are due to slight mis-alignments of soldered key posts, the spring tension and pad seating during manufacturing but nothing so far out that they can't be tweeked (particularly the chromatic F# right hand and the octave key on the neck of my horn). I have done only 3 minor spring-tension and key position adjustments to "loosen" the "feel" and action even a bit more more to please my tastes, but for a aspiring, learning musician the current action & intonation are perfect for developing the embouchure, hand & finger muscle technique.
The sax came w/ a student-sized (small facing) mouthpiece (very easy to blow) but I prefer and have purchased an Otto-Link metal 6* w/ Rovner VERSA ligature and #2 reeds and all the notes are smooth, warm, breathy and fresh. The sub-tones are surprisingly easy to blow and to die for. I am a tenor sax player of 42 yrs but wanted an alto sax for added giggles too - I could not have chosen a better student model than this ETUDE to get me into the "swing" of things (I find that I'm a much better alto player).
I knew that I was NOT going to spend a whole lot of money and realize that I would be "beating-up" the horn silly. The ETUDE EAS-100 is perfect for me and this situation AND for any level of alto saxophonist whether it's in a concert band, stage band, marching band or pit band, no band etc... Don't buy any of those "cheap & colorful" horns on e-bay! Get an ETUDE EAS-100 and immediately start enjoying beautiful saxophone tones of your own (or your child, niece, nephew etc...) IT IS WELL WORTH THE COST and then some. I'm just saying.
I was pleasantly surprised by this sax except for the following:
There was no music stand as described by one of the reviewers;
I needed a pliers to remove the neck plug.
The low G is unreliable. The middle range C# is flat.
The octave key is tricky:; an unpredictable hair trigger or nonresponsive. I hope to adapt. Am unable to access high C or D.
As I have trouble playing the higher notes,
I thought the black plastic left thumb rest button was an octave key protective cover, but on looking at the photos realize it is the left thumb rest after all. Have managed to get a high F and E so don't understand why no high C and D.
I cannot reach the lowest left side key! It is much further down than on my primary alto.
Also the neck is a big rough inside when I brush it out
However the tone, when I can get the note, sounds better than I expected, except for an occasional rattle and shaky sometimes nonresponsive low G and occasional nonresponsiveness of other notes. I'm hoping that perhaps these will work out or that customer support will contact me. (after 3 calls 3 days ago). I look forward to speaking with a sax specialist at WWBW.
I do appreciate the lighter weight including case, which makes this sax more portable than my basic one. I'm wanting to use this backup as a mobile if I can just get it to play!
As I've never had a new sax, I am really hoping that I can "break it in" by playing it (although I can't really play without the high notes and the G).
Bottom Line: I really want this to work for me.
Despite all the above, it is really a sweet little horn!
I really like this saxophone because of its price and quality. I would recommend it especially for the beginners who do not want to spend a lot of money on an expensive saxophone. This one is very good especially if you buy a good mouthpiece for it.
