I was really impressed when I received the instrument. I bought it for my Grand Nephew to finish out his Senior year in H.S. I am a professional musician for over 50 years and I am also a retired USAF Bandsmen. The sax is in a very sturdy case that will take a lot of abuse. I played on the horn in it's full range and everything was very nice. I wasn't impressed with the mouthpiece and if the player is an intermediate musician I suggest another mouthpiece. Consult your teacher. The intonation was very good as was it's tone. There is no marching lira with it but those are cheap. You do get a very nice music stand with it in the accessory pack. A plus is the adjustment on the articulated G#. This is a feature found only on very expensive horns. The only bad thing was a mis-adjustment on the Articulated B flat Bis key (B flat 1 and 4 fingering) A beginner is highly unlikely to use this fingering and it will not be a problem. This is a minor adjustment!!! and may have only been on this horn. Most shops wouldn't charge much to do it and maybe even nothing at all. The finish is really nice. There is very adequate guarding on the lower keys and also a guard for the longer keys and rods. I could find no serious fault with this instrument and the price is incredible. The pro musician might consider the Etude as a backup horn

We bought this saxophone for my 11 year old son in April 2011 as a first instrument as it had such great reviews. He has enjoyed playing it and all seemed fine until now. One year later, we are experiencing the problem of notes not playing. I have just taken it to a repair shop and was informed it had major manufacturer flaws. I was told eventually the metal is going to break because it was so thin and the cement is coming off. It was temporarily repaired but the problem will occur again and the condition of the instrument will worsen. To fix the flaws the repair cost quoted was $200! Clearly we are not going to pay half again to fix a low quality saxophone so will have to upgrade to a more expensive one. We are most disappointed to have purchased this instrument. My son is very careful and not the kind of child who would be careless - it appears this is just a low quality item. What a waste of money.

Don't waste your money

Comments about Etude EAS-100 Student Alto Saxophone:

Bought this horn to see if I liked playing alto saxophone instead of bass clarinet. Fell in love with alto sax right away, however I can't say that for this instrument. Horn is plagued with a myriad of problems: extreme pitchiness, pads sticking, parts falling off, corks detaching, key covers coming unglued, oxidation of neck (where it joins the body. All of this in less than 4 months. I would not put a student through trying to learn how to play an instrument from the ground up on this instrument. Inexpensive doesn't always mean value.

Comments about Etude EAS-100 Student Alto Saxophone:

I purchased this horn to compliment my tenor, although it is very out of tune to start off with, once you replace the mouthpiece(I replaced with the Yamaha 4C), ligature, and reed it is a solid horn that has a great sound in the right hands.

Get what you pay for

Comments about Etude EAS-100 Student Alto Saxophone:

I've been repairing instruments for 14 years. Just had one of these EAS-100's in the shop recently, and once again had to go through the heart-breaking task of explaining to a parent that you really do get what you pay for when you purchase a cheap new instrument. They are designed to last about 1 school year. That's it. This can be advantageous to some families looking to start their child in a band program. The low price point gets the student a playable instrument that is shiny and new. This can provide a psychological attraction to the activity. After the first year, your student might have a good idea about if they want to stick with it. At that point, this instrument will have reached the end of it's life-cycle, as repairing it would not be a wise investment. So, you're left with the decision: do you want to spend $400.00 for a year of Saxophone that can't effectively be repaired? Or do you want to spend 2x - 3x as much for an instrument that will last for decades with proper maintenance?

Great horn for the money.

Comments about Etude EAS-100 Student Alto Saxophone:

Just so you know where I am coming from, I have been a saxophone player since 1957. I played in the US Army Band, I have a degree in saxophone performance and have been a professional music teacher and band director for over 40 years. My first experience with the Etude Alto Sax came last year when I needed to buy a couple of saxes for my elementary Beginning Band. We were on a tight budget and they were on sale so I bought 2 of them. When they arrived I play tested them and was pleased with the sound, the intonation and the sturdiness. My students played them all year and did very well. I retired in May and was looking for a horn for myself. In 2008, I was forced to quit playing due to a chronic medical condition (myasthenia gravis) that affected my chops. Last year I saw a new doctor and with a medication change it appeared I might start playing again. I didn't want to invest a lot of money so the Etude Alto seemed the way to go. I upgraded the mouth piece and all I can say is WOW!!! The horn sounds GREAT!!!! Intonation is spot on, altissimo register is almost effortless. For a beginner I would recommend getting a Yamaha 4C or 5c mouthpiece, a Rovner Ligature and try Rico Royal 2 or 2 1/2 strength reeds. Easy to blow, good tone and intonation. If possible have the instrument play tested by a real saxophone player. Any manufactured item can have issues. The first one I received had a sticky key as a result of a mis-aligned post. I retuned it. The replacement they sent works great. WWBW came through with fantastic customer service, which is why I have been doing business with them over the last 40 years. Bottom line - this horn is worth your consideration.

Comments about Etude EAS-100 Student Alto Saxophone:

This little horn plays great. This is coming from a Selmer Mark VI tenor and soprano guy. I'm playing this in a community band right now. A Woodwind Series II mouthpiece and a 2 1/2 Rico Plasticover reed, you just can't beat it.

Comments about Etude EAS-100 Student Alto Saxophone:

I really like this saxophone because of its price and quality. I would recommend it especially for the beginners who do not want to spend a lot of money on an expensive saxophone. This one is very good especially if you buy a good mouthpiece for it.

Comments about Etude EAS-100 Student Alto Saxophone:

I got the Etude Alto Sax in 2009 and have used it ever since. The saxophone is good for beginners. It's good for students that are looking for a cheap price on an ok quality instrument. The mouthpiece that comes is nothing special but works woe the average player. As one (like myself) learns the intricacies of playing, one can upgrade to a better mouthpiece but still continue to use the Etude sax. I've had this sax for almost 5 years and it's still in good quality. I'm a high school student and made it to my districts competition thus far (still in competition) with this sax. It's definitely worth the buy for a beginner or even intermediate.

VERY Impressed!

Comments about Etude EAS-100 Student Alto Saxophone:

We bought this instrument for my 5th grader who wanted to try band this year. After being floored at the cost of her schools rental program, I decided we needed to explore other options. I came across WWBW website and was excited about the price, but wary about the quality. We decided to try it out since we could return it if we needed to. First of all, WWBW was very easy to work with. They immediately sent me a confirmation email and then tracking numbers for the item within 24 hours. We ordered on a Friday afternoon and the instrument was on our doorstep by Tuesday. The packing was very well done and I felt the piece had been handled with care. We opened the instrument and it was perfect; bright, shiny, and felt of very high quality. My daughter quickly assembled the piece and was able to easily play a few notes. The notes were strong and sounded very rich. Of course we are NOT professional musicians in this house, and I read an earlier comment about how it was not professional quality, but we didn't hear or see anything wrong with it. We purchased the accessory pack with the music stand and everything was brand new. We also purchased the 3 year warranty, again, because she is in elementary band. I would highly recommend WWBW and this sax to anyone who is looking to encourage their child in music without breaking the bank. (Had I rented the sax from the school it would have cost us $2100.00!) For a beginning music student this is absolutely perfect and I am VERY impressed.
