Active Lead player in big bands mostly jazz, but also concert and classical sf, ca

I have been playing trumpet over 30 years and usually play on a Bach Strad., but as another reviewer pointed out, it's not wise to risk your expensive trumpet on outdoor gigs or marching band stuff. I also don't like to travel with my expensive horn, so I bought this horn to leave in my German office/apartment. I can borrow a nicer horn for performances and concerts, but this cheap horn is great for practice. The included mouthpiece is a copy of the Bach 3C. It will be fine for beginners, but I can feel a difference to the real Bach. I use different mouthpieces depending on the tone and range of the piece I'm playing. This horn does have some tuning issues, as one reviewer pointed out. Even when the main tuning note C is in tune, some of the other notes will need to be lipped up or down to stay in tune. The most notorious is the low D, but even other notes using 1 & 2 valve will be a bit off. For experienced players with a good ear the adjustment is easy with the lip. I doubt a beginning player would notice the difference or have the ear to adjust. The overall sound is quite nice for a $100 horn. Valve action is usually good, but the tolerances are a bit off. Besides keeping them well oiled, you also need to make sure the valve is centered in the registration slot before tightening it down. If you open the 2nd valve pipe, you can see the misalignment of the valve to the tube. The tuning slide on my horn was also very loose, so just a bump would change it. I had to check it often to make sure I hadn't inadvertently nudged it. OVERALL: no hesitation to buy this for any student or extra outside goofing off marching band horn. I wish they had these when I was a kid and beating up my nice horn. Parents, go for it. Why pay $80/yr. to rent when you can own this decent horn for just over $100.

I have been playing for over 20 years of & currently attend grad school at a local university, where I occasionally perform with the marching & pep bands. I did not wish to use my pro horn in the athletic environment. So I ordered the ETR 100 more out of curoisty than any thing, after all how good can a $100 trumpet be? I was pleasantly surprised when it was of equal quality to the "name" brand student trumpets that many of our undergrads use for marching.. The fit & finish is excellent the valve alignment good, & the case is quite nice. I would recommend up grading the mouthpiece after the beginner has some tunes under his or her belt, but this is a niggle as the provided MP is adequate. If care is taken this horn should see the average student through high school. I could easily play this horn in lower level concert ensembles with no noticeable intonation difficulties or tonal shortcomings. The advance player, planning on a music major or playing in a select concert or jazz group will want a more advanced instrument at some point, but this is more than adequate for most players. This would also make a excellent budget upgrade for older adults that may still be playing on "vintage" student models that lack adjustable slides and other modern features. Highly Recommended!

I know there are better trumpets out there, but lets be honest, it is very difficult for most to afford them. My son is in a music program where we paid $80 a school year to rent a trumpet. We are very excited to OWN a trumpet that sounds just a good as his Yamaha rental, and the best part is owning this instrument. If you can't afford the higher end trumpets, don't be ashamed, you will find a great sounding instrument at a great price. And the case that comes with the trumpet is of good quality. Thanks WWBW for selling a product that almost everyone can afford.

I have played trumpet for more than 28 years. I have played in everything from concert, marching, big band, swing, jazz, and all trumpet ensembles. This is an exceptional starter horn. The inclusion of a thumb ring for the first valve is something that all student horns should have included decades ago. With proper care and maintenance, this horn should carry a student through high school and beyond. Most if not all instructors on the collegiate level would recommend moving to a professional horn in college, but this horn would still be valuable on the field or as a practice horn at home. (Never can have too many horns! lol) On a serious note, the one review that stated this horn was not in tune is obviously not a long time player. All instruments, especially brass ones, need to be adjusted each time one plays as well as while one is playing. A warm instrument plays flat while a cold instrument plays sharp. Once this horn is tuned and the slides are in place, the player will has the advantage of having a 1st and 3rd ring to make minute adjustments on when playing F, G, D, E, etc. Once again, great horn.
