I'm a comeback player after being away for 25 plus years. I played from grades 4 thru 12. I got my 1st horn (a Conn) in the sixth grsde. That was when Conn and Olds ruled the trumpet world. Which brings me to my current point; don't believe the hype when they say you can't get a quality horn on-line for under a hundred dollars. This horn (the etude) can handle whatever you throw at it. I use a Bach 1c mouthpiece instead of the original 7c that comes with it. The valves and everything work fine. It's getting close to a year that I had this horn and I don't anticipate any major problems. I bought this trumpet from wwbw online for $85.00 plus I paid additional $15.00 for insurance; (2yrs). After being back for two and a half years as a cb player, I didn't like the progress I was making with my embrochure so I ended up physically destroying my previous horn. (Afterwards I cried like a baby). That's why I took a chance on an inexpensive horn. I'm glad I took that chance. I know it's not the best horn in the world (according to the trumpet snobs out there)but it is nowhere near the horror stories that I've read about concerning the inexpensive Chinese imports. This horn is more than enough trumpet for the average player. I think some of these complaints concerning valve, tone and tuning issues are from people who are new to trumpets or maybe it's part of a wider conspiracy by the big American brand trumpet makers to force us buy their $3000.00 plus trumpets. If you love to play, you'll find a way. Don't let the trumpet snobs discourage you. You can still touch a heartstring and spark an emotion without spending $3000.00; Of course, I'd love to get my hands and lips on a Bach/Strad. But for now the Etude is holding its own. I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars only because it's not a Bach.
I know there are better trumpets out there, but lets be honest, it is very difficult for most to afford them. My son is in a music program where we paid $80 a school year to rent a trumpet. We are very excited to OWN a trumpet that sounds just a good as his Yamaha rental, and the best part is owning this instrument. If you can't afford the higher end trumpets, don't be ashamed, you will find a great sounding instrument at a great price. And the case that comes with the trumpet is of good quality. Thanks WWBW for selling a product that almost everyone can afford.
I'm new to the trumpet, but I've played many other instruments over the years (currently, tenor sax for the last year and a half). This seems like a good horn. It feels solid, and the valves and tuning slides all move freely. Being a beginner, I can't really speak for the sound quality yet, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I'm 100% satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this horn to anyone.
Don't forget to purchase a cleaning kit and a practice mute (your neighbors will thank you for the mute, and without it, you probably won't even be able to stand your own sound right away. lol).
I recently ordered this horn for my son who started 6th grade band in August. I took the horn and had a gentleman at church that had been playing the trumpet for over 25 years. He was very impressed with the horn and said that I had gotten a great horn for the money and he wished he could have purchased a horn at this price when his daughter started in band 6 years ago. I am very pleased with my purchase and have recommended to several parents to check out this website rather then paying big money renting to own.
Awesome Product- recommended highly!
Great trumpet for the price. I played in high school 20 years ago and when my son started this year I want to play with him. This isn't near the quality of my son's Yamaha, but at one tenth the price well worth the money. Great horn to play with if you are just starting, just play for fun, or maybe pep band if you don't want to damage your more expensive one. Just order valve oil with it, it will need to play oiled out of the box.
I have been playing trumpet over 30 years and usually play on a Bach Strad., but as another reviewer pointed out, it's not wise to risk your expensive trumpet on outdoor gigs or marching band stuff. I also don't like to travel with my expensive horn, so I bought this horn to leave in my German office/apartment. I can borrow a nicer horn for performances and concerts, but this cheap horn is great for practice.
The included mouthpiece is a copy of the Bach 3C. It will be fine for beginners, but I can feel a difference to the real Bach. I use different mouthpieces depending on the tone and range of the piece I'm playing.
This horn does have some tuning issues, as one reviewer pointed out. Even when the main tuning note C is in tune, some of the other notes will need to be lipped up or down to stay in tune. The most notorious is the low D, but even other notes using 1 & 2 valve will be a bit off. For experienced players with a good ear the adjustment is easy with the lip. I doubt a beginning player would notice the difference or have the ear to adjust.
The overall sound is quite nice for a $100 horn.
Valve action is usually good, but the tolerances are a bit off. Besides keeping them well oiled, you also need to make sure the valve is centered in the registration slot before tightening it down. If you open the 2nd valve pipe, you can see the misalignment of the valve to the tube.
The tuning slide on my horn was also very loose, so just a bump would change it. I had to check it often to make sure I hadn't inadvertently nudged it.
OVERALL: no hesitation to buy this for any student or extra outside goofing off marching band horn. I wish they had these when I was a kid and beating up my nice horn. Parents, go for it. Why pay $80/yr. to rent when you can own this decent horn for just over $100.
it works my child loves it keep up the good work!
Given my experience with wwbw's off brand instruments I was pretty comfortable buying a really inexpensive Trumpet - but only from wwbw! The have a reputation for quality and I don't believe they would sell instruments that don't work. This trumpet blew me away! The tone is vibrant and rich, much like a silver instrument. The notes slot well and the valves are very smooth. I played it against other trumpets and had to go up in price several hundred dollars before I played anything that I liked as well.
it is the best trumpet i ever used....sound is very smooth & price is also reasonable....!
