F. Loree Paris Royal OboeRoyal OboeAK bore: this is bore is based on the AK-series oboes. This instrument has a slightly more conical bore than the Regular, rendering it narrower near the top and slightly wider at the bell. The resulting sound is focused and dark, with less of an "edge" to it. This bore is very popular, especially in North America. The '+3' designation means that the model includes the third octave keyThe walls of the bore are a bit thicker than other Loree oboes, and there are some minor mechanism adjustments. It has heavy silver-plated keywork and a full conservatory system which includes low Bb, left F, third octave key, Bb vent, forked-F resonance, split ring D#-E trill, G#-A trill, articulated B-C# mechanism, banana key, and Bb-B trill. Metal-lined tenons and an adjustable thumbrest are standard.

As a progressing oboe student i definitly needed to upgrade from my Bundy oboe. This Oboe is far superior any "low class" oboe. With the complete french conservatory system this oboe is complete. The AK bore is absolutly amazing, the bore allows you both "screach", or play in the broaque characteristics, and to play with such a round and beautiful tone that will bring down the house. As a beginner to reed making, and I'm making good reeds, I have only sratched the surface of what this oboe is capable of doing. Even though it is one of the most expensive oboes in the world, it is definitly worth the money!
I've played on Rigoutat, Marigaux, Yamaha, Laubin and all the rest, but in my opinion this horn beats them all. My royal (standard bore) was actually an upgrade from another Loree (regular w/AK) that is now my back up horn. It's amazing. Full clear sound from top to bottom. HIgh notes are amazing. With the 3rd octave I can go all the way through high C without issues and with stable pitch. The keywork is very comfortable and seems to be on a little bit more level and raised platform from the standard and older Lorees. It is also very versatile. No problem projecting whatsoever. Cuts right through a full orchestra or wind ensemble with ease. At the same time it is also lends itself well to solo and chamber work. High D can be a little finicky at times, but you get used to it. Additionally the alternate/british High D fingerings come out clear and in tune, so there's always that option. I wouldn't recommend this horn for anyone below at least a very advanced high school/college playing level. It is a very powerful horn. I've let a few of my high school students and even a couple freshman/sophomore undergrads try it and they honestly had a little trouble controlling it. It is definitely a professional horn in every aspect. The only other thing i would mention (and to me this is a plus as I am a big guy with big hands) is that this horn is very thick and very HEAVY!! I haven't actually weighed it, but it feels like it is twice as heavy as my standard loree. It is also have a noticeably larger circumference and thicker than usual keys when you hold it in your hand. An amazing horn. If you haven't tried one, do it. You'll love it!
This beautiful oboe plays with a full, dark, rich sound. It has an even scale, and even the low Bb speaks clearly and with ease. It is distinctive from a regular Loree in its rich sound. You'll just have to play it to believe it. It's worth every penny!
