Fender Artist Series Eric Johnson Stratocaster Electric GuitarAfter years of painstaking research and design, the Fender Eric Johnson Stratocaster Electric Guitar has finally arrived. Designed with Eric by Custom Shop guru Michael Frank-Braun, this beauty is based on a '57, and combines the best of vintage design with modern electronics technology. The '57-style, 2-piece alder body has an ultrathin, Custom Shop-quality nitrocellulose lacquer finish that results in better resonance. Johnson opted for a one-piece, quartersawn maple neck with a 12" radius that's finished with a thin-skinned glossy lacquer and vintage tint. 19 prototype pickups were created before Johnson found the tone he was looking for. The Custom Shop-modified single coils use a new wire material and winding technique for the magnets giving them a unique, Eric Johnson-approved sound. Johnson and Braun also included one of Eric's most famous Strat modifications by wiring the tone controls to the neck and bridge pickups, instead of the standard neck/middle tone configuration of most Strats. This guitar offers tonal perfection thanks to the discerning ear of one of the best players to ever pick up an axe. And it's pleasing to the eye as well, with its large arm contour, '57-style pickguard and shallow pickup cavities, plus thin headstock with vintage staggered tuners that eliminate the need for a string tree. Unbelievable Custom Shop-like quality in a production axe. Check the drop-down menu to the right to select colors and/or other options.

Read the specs and you will realize this Strat will be in high demand. Especially at $1500.00 Consider this: At the same price you can get a run of the mill Gibson that wouldn't be able to touch this especially made Strat. I`m saving my pennies for one of these.
This is a very nice, light and playable guitar which offers a unique tone because of the different pickups. According to Fender, they made 19 pups before Eric was satisfied, so you know that what you're getting took a lot of work to make. The neck feels like a Clapton Strat but changes profile around the 8th fret onwards. This is OK and normal Strat players should have no problems adapting. The finish is decent enough but I don't think it'll stand up to the rigors of heavy gigging - it's got a very fragile feel to it. I partnered the guitar with a Digitech Bad Monkey tube overdrive into a Marshall DSL401, turned down the guitar's volume and cranked up the amp and found some nice, blues tones are possible.
I I've been playing guitar for over 22 years now. I've always loved Strats, and they have always been in my collection since I got serious about music back in high school. I've played many of the models, ranging from the HM Series Strat (from the 80's); to some of the newer Fender Custom Shop 60's Closet Classics. I have to say that after I played this one, I realized that is was one of the best Stratocasters I've ever played on. Considering the decent price (not overly expensive), the tone, the playability, and its great looks...this is one of the best values in Fender Stratocasters I've ever seen or played on. I would love to own about 3 of these for my gigs, but one will have to suffice for now.
Play classic country and classic R&R. Usually use a vintage Tele, but wanted a Strat to use on occasion. The EJ Strat has great tone variety for country and rock and roll. Has a lot of "bite" for country lead and sustains really well. Was good out of the box. DR tite fit 10's are a good addition. Is a very solid guitar!!! WWBW is a good place to buy!!!
