Fossati Soliste OboeFossati Soliste Oboe About FossatiGÈrard Fossati created his first instrument in 1983 bringing to it his already extensive skills and experience. He also showed a strong desire to improve the oboe making in general. His wish has always been the optimization of the whole instrument (i.e mechanic, sound, tune.) so has to suit best musicians' expectations. Thanks to the combination of his know-how and to the use of new technologies (CAD for R&D, numeric lathe.), the Fossati instruments have acquired a forever lasting reliability. 20 years after the setting up of the firm, this alchemy has made the Fossati brand an important name on the international oboe market. GÈrard Fossati considers that the musicians have to be at the core of his thoughts in the process of instrument making. This is why he works ´ hand in hand ª with many players. From Brazil to Russia or from Japan to the USA, GÈrard Fossati does not hesitate to travel the world to meet them. ´ Each country has its own particularities. Each musician is different and has his own morphology, his own way to gouge and shape the reeds. Taking into account these parameters is essential to renew with the instrument making tradition ª. All those meetings have allowed Fossati develop a complete range of instruments (oboes, english horns, oboes d'amore and bass oboes). Each of the instruments is tested by a professional musician : Michel BÈnet, who is Oboe principal at Orchestre de Paris, tunes the professional oboe gamut : Artiste and Soliste. Fabrice MÈlinon, who is Oboe principal at l'Orchestre Philarmonique du Luxembourg, tunes the student oboe range : Tiery. Jean-Christophe Gayot, who is Oboe solo at l'Orchestre Philarmonique de Radio France tunes the Oboe d'amore range. Jean-Marc Liet, principal oboist and english hornist in the 2E2M ensemble tunes the english horn and bass oboe range. Today around 20 people make more than 700 instruments a year in our factory based in Montargis (South of Paris). The company also owns a repairing shop located in Paris, nearby the Conservatoire National SupÈrieur de Musique. Since 1983, the same passion has nourished the Fossati's team. That very same passion that has led Fossati to constantly look for solutions to oboists' problems.

I received the Fossati as a Christmas present this year. At first, it wasn't very exceptional, but as it is starting to "break in" it becomes more of a joy to play. It offers a very sweet tone that blends AMAZINGLY!!! As a solo instrument, it provides a pleasing sound that can rival that of any Loree. (I actually prefer this instrument to a Loree!) As far as intonation goes, it has a few problems with the top line F# and the top line forked F. As I spend more time on the instrument, though, it becomes less and less of a problem. I recently used it to audition for college and it helped me receive a full-paid scholarship. I plan to use this instrument for a very very very long time and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who might want to try it. Another good thing is that if you buy from WWBW and are not satisfied, you can return or exchange it with NO hassles! I did it a couple times and am still very impressed with the price and service! Happy oboe playing to ya! Tootles : )
