After several years of using a heavy K&M Bass Clarinet / Bassoon Stand for my Fox model 601 bassoon, I purchased the Fox bassoon stand. It is nicely designed and supports my bassoon very will. However, buyers should be aware that the stand supports the bassoon from the boot joint end cap to the top of the boot joint. It does not weigh very much and in a rehearsal room environment it would be possible for a careless colleague to inadvertently bump into it with disastrous results. Alas, after much thought and several close calls I reverted to the larger and heavier stand for orchestra rehearsal and use the Fox stand only in my studio where the uninitiated are forbidden entrance.
It would be nice if Fox products would offer a bassoon stand which combined their top and bottom support brackets with the weight and sturdiness of the K & M stand.
This stand is very well-made and does the job nicely. I was reluctant to spend so much but now wonder why I didn't buy it sooner. It's very positive and supports the instrument nicely. Disassembles easily also.
This one stand has been a tremendous help. Before I got it, I was unable to move easily and was forced to take my bassoon with me everywhere once I got it out of its case. However, now that I've bought the stand, I have been able to practice it, be active in some other activity, and return to my practicing without fear of damaging my bassoon. I would highly recommend this stand particularly because of it folds very nicely and fits into small places before being used. I would highly recommend that any bassoonist should consider buying either this stand or another similar stand to maximize the ease of your life by limiting your anxiety.
I really needed a bassoon stand, and I bought this well over a year ago based on reviews. This product is horrible and has been from day one. It's cheaply made and difficult to carry around because if you were to take it apart, you would have to reassemble it and hope you do no lose the small screws and wingnuts. The wingnuts have always become lose on their own, and I was playing at a college graduation with the awkward bassoon stand in tote with my music, and one of the wingnuts came off and I never found it. Spend a little more on a fold up stand with some weight to it. I had the hopes of having my mind put at ease with this stand, but I barely trust my bassoon on it. Time to find a foldup stand.
