I had a Loree and had to make a change because the orchestras that I play oboe/English horn has some outdoor concert. I purchased the Fox 450 first because my English Horn is a Fox Product and I found it easy to play and a wonderful sound.
I've played oboe for eight years. I started on a school model and purchased this in my fourth year of playing. It has a wonderful sound and I've never been told by anyone that I needed to purchase a better oboe. It will take you wherever you want to go. It?s taken me to All-State both in band and orchestra, as well as playing as a soloist, in symphonies, bands, and chamber music. Over the years, I've obviously had some repairs done, though this will be the case with any oboe. On this oboe, the two issues most likely to occur are probably a sticky split-ring key or sticking in the upper two trill keys. You may at some point also want to have the Low C pad replaced. I had mine replaced as the cement wore out, but that is over the course of five years of playing on this instrument. Really, a great instrument, and I recommend it wholeheartedly.
