Fox Renard Model 220 BassoonThe Renard Model 220 bassoon is mechanically identical to the Renard Model 240 bassoon. The tonal warmth and scale of the long bore gives a good choice between the 240 and the 220. The secure performance and superior intonation of the long bore design will provide excellent performance for advancing school bassoonists.Introduced in 1972, the Renard 220 (long bore) has a very warm “round” tone, evenly balanced with excellent intonation throughout the entire range. It is the most secure design and its tone quality fits well into both chamber music and orchestral ensembles. Like all of the Renard long bore designs, it features an intonation guarantee that makes it very popular with students and schools. The body is constructed of black maple with a long bore, selected for tone and durability, naturally aged in Fox/Renard's own facilities. It features linings in the wing joint and small bore of the boot joint. A French bell (metal ring) and body lock are standard. The instrument is finished in acrylic enamel.Mechanically the Renard 220 has nickel silver keys with silver plating, a Full German system with additional high D and high E keys, and a ring key for wing joint third finger hole. Rollers on F, Ab, Eb, Db; right thumb Bb and F# in combination with a crowned E key. Bb guard. Metal tubes extending into the bore in the finger holes of the wing and boot joints to prevent water from entering the tone holes. Spring posts locked with screws.IntonaIts tuning basis is A:440, and each instrument is individually hand tuned for maximum resonance and projection. Two professional bocals included. Unless otherwise requested, the standard bocals will include #2 and #3 lengths, *CVX* bore, silver plated. The Renard 220 includes a premium artist case with case cover, neck strap, crutch, two drop swabs, seat strap.Additionally, within one year, the instrument may be returned to the factory for fine-tuning, acoustical adjustment, and mechanical servicing, with costs limited to freight and parts.

This bassoon should be the number one choice for student bassoonists through college level playing. The scale is even and well tuned. The instrument is constructed well and plays like a dream. It is by far the best bassoon for any student that does not wish to invest a huge amount of money in a professional instrument.
This is a great bassoon. As a bassoonist who was a music major in college, this instrument took me everywhere I needed to go. It plays well and has a good overall sound. I would recommend it to anyone. As a band director, I would purchase this instrument for my school.
My parents bought me this model bassoon around 1999 when I was in 9th grade, and I am still playing this instrument, now in a top university wind ensemble. This model is easy to play even as a younger student, and yet is still of such quality to perform much more demanding music. It has held up extremely well and has excellent tone quality, intonation, and response. I would recommend if you have tone, intonation, or difficulty in the upper register to examine/modify your reeds - as I have moved to making my own and experimented with profile, shape, scrape, etc, I have found that the difficulties I may have had were not the fault of the instrument! I highly recommend this bassoon.
