OVERVIEW

One of the finest instruments for the advancing student bassonoist.

The Renard Artist Model 240 Bassoon is the ultimate advanced student bassoon. It features all of the mechanical extras that any advanced student might need, including a high E key, and a whisper key lock. The short bore design provides the tone, flexibility and resonance that would otherwise be found only in professional models. In fact, many professionals find this model well suited to their needs either as a touring bassoon or a fallback instrument in case of sudden failure on the part of their primary instrument.

The Renard 240 is based on the short bore design of the Fox model 201 bassoon. It features a tone quality that is more œopen than the long bore. It is voiced to permit the performer to open up and œsing in the solo register, which is why since its introduction in 1994, it has been a director's choice of bassoons oriented toward solo performance. Frequently chosen by aspiring bassoonists, it has also been utilized in symphony orchestras around the world.

The Renard 240 is constructed of red maple with a short bore that has been selected for tone quality and naturally aged in Fox/Renard's own facilities. Natural rubber linings in the wing joint and small bore of the boot joint, body lock and a French bell (metal ring) are standard. This instrument is finished in acrylic enamel.

Mechanical details include nickel silver keys with silver plating, in a Full German system with additional high D and high E keys, ring key for wing joint third finger hole, and rollers on F, Ab, Eb, Db; right thumb Bb and F# in combination with a crowned E key. It also features a Bb guard. Metal tubes extending into the bore in the finger holes of the wing and boot joints to prevent water from entering the tone holes. Spring posts locked with screws.

Two professional bocals are included. The standard bocals will include #2 and #3 lengths, *CVX* bore, silver plated. A-440 tuning plus or minus one cent. The design is very flexible and may be used as high as A-443. Comes with premium artist case with case cover, neck strap, crutch, two drop swabs, seat strap. Additionally, within one year, the instrument may be returned to the factory for fine tuning, acoustical adjustment, and mechanical servicing, with costs limited to freight and parts.

  • Maple wood body with natural rubber lining
  • Silver-plated, full German key system

Comments about Fox Renard Model 240 Bassoon:

I've had my 240 for over 3 years now. I got it while in high school, and I continue to play in college. Definitely worth the investment! Plays beautifully, produces a great tone, and is especially perfect for students who need a high-quality horn for an affordable price. I've had no major issues with it, and I look forward to playing it for many more years

10 years and still going strong

Comments about Fox Renard Model 240 Bassoon:

I purchased a Fox Renard 240 ten years ago when I was a senior in high school, planning to be a music major in college (that didn't last long, but that's an entirely different story). I still play frequently in community bands and orchestras, and I love my fox bassoon. Not only is it beautiful to look at, but I get an absolutely gorgeous tone from it (if I do say so myself), using the *CVX* bocals that came with the instrument. As long as my reed is decent, it is very stable and predictable. I get many complements on my tone. This instrument has also been very low-maintenance; in the 10 years I've had it, the only problem that has needed fixing is that my bocals needed to be re-corked. Fast, cheap, and easy. I'm not a world-class player, but as a hard-core hobbyist, it suits my needs very well. Student bassoon? I think not. This wonderful, high-quality instrument will be my partner in music for many, many years to come.

Best Bassoon

Comments about Fox Renard Model 240 Bassoon:

This basssoon is probably the best wooden bassoon at the most resonable price. I played the bassoon for five years so I know enough about bassoon to say this is the best. I brought this and when I took my first note the sound was so clean and clear with a strong tone. I play this in a band so I go from high notes to low notes. My last bassoon which was a cheap used plastic bassoon always went flat or sharp, with this bassoon I was at perfect pitch. The fingering is made easier to press so that younger student can play easier or people with any sized hands can play. Hope you enjoy this bassoon

Comments about Fox Renard Model 240 Bassoon:

As a band director for 26 years, I have used this bassoon for as long as it became available... the sound, ease of projection and pitch are superior to anything near and above this price range. Ease of projection were all comments by my terrific students! Blend with other woodwinds so nice. Best bassoon you can buy for very advanced JH and great HS players in this price range!

This bassoon is excellent. It has a wonderful finish, plays beautifully, and is really good for performance. Paired with a good reed and bocal(most likely heckel), this bassoon could be the best one ever!
