My son has 1929 Conn 58B trumpet, also known as the Pea Shooter. It's longer than other trumpets and we could not find a case to fit it. Finally saw this one on here. Called for the inside dimensions which were just a 1/4 inch longer than the trumpet. The 58B fits very nicely in it and is well protected. The case is nicely padded with a soft material covering inside. Good quality and well built. So far holding up very well for going back and forth to school with a 7th grader.
I purchased one of these from the ITG Convention in Harrisburg a year or so ago. I wish I had purchased it from here as it was almost twice as much at the convention! A great gig bag with lots of padding - never have to worry about damage with normal use - it's not like a hard shelled case - none of them are! Excellent product!
I needed a gig bag for when I'm on the go and one i could carry or put over my shoulder and this bag came through and the quality of the leather is high. Very great value!!! Highly recommend!
This is a GREAT trumpet bag, the BEST value on the market. I had previously purchased a leather Gard triple trumpet bag. Though its quality was excellent, the bag was too tight for three trumpets and simply not long enough. I tried 8 different trumpets and could not get any three into the bag. Gard had done 98% of the research necessary to make a really useable, top quality bag, but didn't get the last 2%. Hopefully they will correct this in the near future.
But Gard's obvious attention to detail and desire to offer a very high quality gig bag at rock bottom prices in the triple led me to try the single leather trumpet bag, which I decided I could use for my long cornet if it was too short for a trumpet. But Gard got the single bag exactly right. It is long enough to provide an adequate compression zone at each end, yet snug enough the horn does not move around. The case ships with a padded wooden disc that protects the bell, and with that in place the interior provides 1? of receiver clearance on a 20? trumpet. It works for both my 1930 Holton trumpet and 1946 Conn 80A. Fit and finish (blue, not brown that you might imagine from black and white photos) is excellent and the price is unbelievable.
The 1.5 x 7 x 16? exterior accessory compartment is, as always, a compromise between volume and bulkiness. About two inches of that space is occupied by a rain bonnet that remains attached to the bag, is contained in a sewn-in bag to seperate it from accessories, and is accessible through an end zipper. The accessory compartment will hold a couple mouthpieces and oil plus my 4? diameter Jo Ral bubble mute, though distension of the compartment by the mute means the mute will not be protected by impacts. Alternatively it will hold oil and a four mouthpiece container.
No gig bag will protect a horn like a rigid case, but I would guess that no other trumpet gig bag will protect a horn any better than this one will. Old horns need good protection. I consider the degree of protection offered by this bag adequate to protect my valued 80 year old Holton.
The case also includes D rings for the shoulder carrying strap which is included, plus two more bottom D rings and a riveted top leather loop so the strap can be lengthened, threaded through the loop, and attached to the bottom D rings to create a backpack carry. Given the narrow bag size, this strap may not be long enough to fit large chested people in the backpack configuration. And, if carried in the side compartment, the strap will occupy about 2? of the compartment length.
All in all I give this a six star top rating on a five star scale with no deficits and recommend it as a best value in gig bags.
I was unable to find any flaws in construction. The leather bag I received was a solid black (according to other reviews it can be a brown or blue... if you have a preference, you should contact WWBW before placing an order).
The inside is constructed of a nice cushion of foam covered in a light blue cotton velvet. There is a removable wooden bell disk (also foam padded) that will help keep your bell from getting damaged in the event someone steps on the end.
This Gard bag has a pouch that is an extension off the bag rather than a tight slit on the side (as in the case of the RB bag). There is also a removable rain cover that is affixed by velcro inside the smaller vertical compartment.
It comes with an exceptional strap that looks like it could survive the apocalypse. It can be set in a standard over the chest-style or backpack position.
It also came with a removable name badge.
Overall: This case was more than I expected it to be. I was initially worried about the thickness of the padding and how secure my trumpet would sit on the inside. Both my C and my Bb fit, perfectly, without shuffling around.
Con: The only way this bag could get better is if they included a mouthpiece pouch (but this doesn't really bother me considering the price). If you really need a pouch, rip up an old t-shirt and get out a stapler. I suppose you could shove your mouthpiece in the rain-cover compartment. Fortunately, I already had a mouthpiece pouch.
Best "Bang for Buck" single leather gig bag on the market!
