Gator GC Series Deluxe ABS Tenor Saxophone CaseThe Gator ABS tenor sax case is made to meet the requirements of both professional and student band players. This hardshell case is constructed of an ABS exterior and a rigid EPS interior, which is similar to how a motorcycle helmet is constructed. The interior has soft foam in addition to plush lining to protect the instrument. D rings on the case make it easy to add a shoulder strap. For added longevity the tenor sax case has a backing plate on every rivet.

I just recently bought a new pro Cannonball Tenor, which are known for their large bells, and was tired of carrying the stock case. I am a cheap buyer and decided this case would work out for my college budget. This case is more useful than I thought! My Cannonball fits perfectly with one neck that fits too. The extra space, like for the reeds and mouthpieces look deceiving, but I was able to fit a Mouthpiece w/ protector, reed case that holds ten reeds, a tuner, a metronome, and my neck strap easily. My only complain is I wish there was a mouthpiece slot, but it works great now! Also it comes with a strap, which I thought it wouldn't. This was such a great buy!
Usually, I am skeptical of case companies other than SKB, Winter, and Johnson. HOWEVER, the Gator GC molded case put my questions to rest. My Yamaha Z tenor sits in this case as well as the custom case that it originally came in! There are spaces for the neck, mouthpiece, and some small accessories as well. I was also VERY excited to find that this case has a locking latch (the middle one) which is wonderful if you're on the move a lot. The case itself is built like the rack cases made by Gator- solid, anvil-style, and tough. I've never seen a case this nice for such a great deal! Get them while you can!
Very solid case! Also nice and rigid. Carry strap allows for carrying with the opening side of case to be against the body thus avoiding a dropped horn if latches were not secured. Fits every tenor I have in the repair shop at present including: 1926 Buescher True Tone with opposite side bell keys, 1957 MK VI, late 20's King w/ opposite bell keys, Conn New Wonder w/ opposing bell keys, 1923 Martin Handcraft w/ opposite bell keys. The manufacturer opted for an interior space that would hold the largest horns available so that each of the saxes that I test fit would need a small amount of added cushioning to be snug, but this is easily done with something like pool noodle foam (my current favorite case customizing material) covered with cloth. A properly snuggly fit horn might even survive the airlines, although I am not in a hurry to test this. I can't think of a single reason to spend more for any other case that is not an anvil style custom fit for the hard road.
For the money you can not do better. I love the fact it has a small compartment for my reeds and cleaning swab. It is very durable and carries easily over my shoulder. I do about 30 gigs a year and it tends to take some abuse. I'm very confident it is protecting my horn. I have one complaint. The strap that holds the open case to 45 degrees broke. ( was able to use a little gorilla glue and it has not slipped since.)
I just got this case for my tenor. Although the case is a little long for my horn, it's well made and has good storage for my neck, mouthpiece, etc. Any tenor should fit. The padding is semi-rigid (not too hard, not too squishy) and the liner is plush. I will probably put some additional padding in it to make it a little more snug in spots. I recommend a flight case over a cheap wood band case or gig bag any day. They're durable, light and easy to carry.
I haven't had the chance to test this case in the field yet but I really struggled to find a case that would fit my horn. This case fit my Cannonball Big Bell Stone Series really well. For bumpy trips like on airplanes I would add some padding to make it really snug. I put a Selmer Series III Jubilee in it and there was a lot of room. Definitely would need some extra padding. The neck slot is a little awkward. You need to make sure you don't slam the case down and damage the neck. I am really thrilled I found a case to fit my Cannonball that wasn't supposed to fit in most cases!
