Comments about Gator GWE-DREAD 12 Hardshell Dreadnougtht /12 Guitar Case:

I purchased one of these when I purchased a 12-string back in February--but only because it was the only case the store had in stock the 12-string would fit into. The product description provided by the manufacturer is misleading. The shell is made from 3-ply plywood, not 5-ply. Moreover, the wood used is "luan" a very cheap grade of mahogany grown in the Philippines and not highly regarded by woodworkers because it does not hold up very well--as I have learned the hard way. The storage compartment for accessories is inadequate to hold more than a spare set of strings and a package of picks. So if you carry anything else [capo, tuner, strap, patch cables], you will need to carry another bag with you in addition to this one if you plan on purchasing one of these. A few weeks ago, I started experiencing difficulty shutting the case--the top was warping. I also noticed one area on the side of the case was getting "mushy feeling--the plies were separating. Gator refused to honor the warranty and replace the case--claiming that the damage is due to excessive humidity where I live and not any manufacturing defect--so their customer service is worthless. I have a hygrometer to monitor humidity levels in this house and run a dehumidifier when it is over 55 percent. I will never again purchase a Gator product and will not recommend them to others.
