this is my first flute, though I will be moving on soon to a gemeinhardt 3b flute. This flute has served me well, and I would recommend it to any beginning flautist. It has a head-joint that can't be beat by other brands it its tonal responsiveness, and ease of sound production. I can easily hit 4Th octave d(not 3rd), Though going higher is quite hard. I found it equally as easy to go low, and the foot works well, though the key is a bit heavy for the pinky in fast movements. This flute can't be beat with the ratio of price to quality, and even with a well-known, and popular brand.Comparable yamaha's can be upwards of 900 bucks, and this is equal in quality and sound.
I've had this flute for 2 years now, and I have got to say this flute is good for only about the 1st year of starting flute. The keys are a problem. There are times when you press a key, the other key that presses with it dosen't cover the hole all the way, making a squeaky sound we all hate. And after a year or so, the nickel-silver plating starts fading more and more until there are numerous brown spots in various places. But this is a good flute to start with, pretty good sound, light keys, etc. I recommend buying a better student flute, or intermediate- professional flute later on for a better sound and looks.
when i started playing flute it was incredibly helpful and very durable (it had been my brothers so it had to have been durable). It gave me no problams after playing it in the rain during a marching band game. Gives me a good sound and is easy to play only real problems is having to pull out very far when tuning. I would definitly recemond it to any begineer flute player
I bought a relatively old (1989!) 2SP for jazz and musical theatre doubling purposes (I'm a saxophone player) after reading reviews and hearing a friend extol Gemeinhardt as one of the best student flute makers today. I must say I agree with them. My 2SP is such a great doubling flute, some of fellow bandmates were surprised it was a student model! Very easy to play, and the closed-key system feels the same as a saxophone. If Gemeinhardt made flutes this well in the '80s, I have no doubt they have mastered the student flute craft in modern times!
I have had the same flute for 25 years. It still sounds beautiful and can take a beating.
