Disappointing

By

Pros

  • Easy To Blow
  • Low Price

Cons

  • Intonation Variable
  • Poor Tone

Best Uses

  • Young Beginner

Comments about Gemeinhardt 2SP Series Student Flute:

Gemeinhardt 2SP model- Foot joint extremely tight so caution needs to be used in putting flute together. Mid-staff E tone is extremely raspy and closed. Upper notes were very sharp and lower ones very flat and lacking a good sound. If you want a clear tone and accurate intonation this is not a good choice. If you want an instrument that is easy to play to produce first notes, esp.high ones, this might be satisfactory. I returned mine.

Good Start

Comments about Gemeinhardt 2SP Series Student Flute:

I got this instrument to learn to play for becoming a music teacher and I have to say that I like the sound. I got it used and had to take it apart to clean off the dark tarnish on it and found that the parts are quite durable, like they should be for a student instrument. I always recommend that students get a good case for their instruments and the hard case it comes in is perfect for fitting in a backpack. You can fit your cleaning rod and cloth in the case and that's all, but that's ok, because with such a small case, the pencils and such can fit in a bag with the case.

Down-to-earth Flute

Comments about Gemeinhardt 2SP Series Student Flute:

This flute is down-to-earth! I love it! It served me well for my beginning journey of playing the flute. I have since moved on to an open hole flute, but this flute will not let you down. The construction is solid enough to handle the general clumsiness of a beginner. It also holds a stays shiney for a while. My flute was passed down to me from my older sibling and I could wipe it down with a polishing cloth and it would return to a shine that would make you think it was brand new. Since mine was used it had a few small dents in it, but it did not effect the sound one bit. I was able to get a beautiful silvery tone out of this instrument that rivals the flute I have now. This instrument served me well in beginning lessons, when I joined a community band, and even when I got to college and would just play with friends. This flute only went to get a tune up once or twice in the five years I had it. As long as it is taken care of, it will serve you well. This is a great flute to get any beginner startd.

An Excellent Beginner's/Doubler's flute

By

Comments about Gemeinhardt 2SP Series Student Flute:

I bought a relatively old (1989!) 2SP for jazz and musical theatre doubling purposes (I'm a saxophone player) after reading reviews and hearing a friend extol Gemeinhardt as one of the best student flute makers today. I must say I agree with them. My 2SP is such a great doubling flute, some of fellow bandmates were surprised it was a student model! Very easy to play, and the closed-key system feels the same as a saxophone. If Gemeinhardt made flutes this well in the '80s, I have no doubt they have mastered the student flute craft in modern times!

Comments about Gemeinhardt 2SP Series Student Flute:

when i started playing flute it was incredibly helpful and very durable (it had been my brothers so it had to have been durable). It gave me no problams after playing it in the rain during a marching band game. Gives me a good sound and is easy to play only real problems is having to pull out very far when tuning. I would definitly recemond it to any begineer flute player

A average beginning flute (only for beginners)

Comments about Gemeinhardt 2SP Series Student Flute:

I've had this flute for 2 years now, and I have got to say this flute is good for only about the 1st year of starting flute. The keys are a problem. There are times when you press a key, the other key that presses with it dosen't cover the hole all the way, making a squeaky sound we all hate. And after a year or so, the nickel-silver plating starts fading more and more until there are numerous brown spots in various places. But this is a good flute to start with, pretty good sound, light keys, etc. I recommend buying a better student flute, or intermediate- professional flute later on for a better sound and looks.

Truly amazing flute

Comments about Gemeinhardt 2SP Series Student Flute:

this is my first flute, though I will be moving on soon to a gemeinhardt 3b flute. This flute has served me well, and I would recommend it to any beginning flautist. It has a head-joint that can't be beat by other brands it its tonal responsiveness, and ease of sound production. I can easily hit 4Th octave d(not 3rd), Though going higher is quite hard. I found it equally as easy to go low, and the foot works well, though the key is a bit heavy for the pinky in fast movements. This flute can't be beat with the ratio of price to quality, and even with a well-known, and popular brand.Comparable yamaha's can be upwards of 900 bucks, and this is equal in quality and sound.
