Gemeinhardt 3SHB Series Intermediate FluteThe Gemeinhardt 3SHB offers the resonance and tone quality of a solid silver headjoint combined with the French key mechanism (open-hole keys) often requested on an intermediate student instrument. Before buying this, I read all the other reviews just to ensure that this flute was any good, and as told, this is an amazing flute! Its easy to play, the tone quality is beautiful, and the metal is much stronger and better than any of the student flutes! It did take a day to get used to, because my fingers weren't covering all the holes and that I've never owned an open-holed flute before. After all that, the tone sounded great! Overall, I think this is an excellent choice.
I have been playing flute for four years. I had a Gemeinhardt student flute, but needed something more as I began to excel. I received this flute (with features: gold lip plate, in-line G, and b foot) as a birthday gift, and I absolutely love it. It plays beautifully, and I have not had one problem out of it. I recommend this to any student who is stepping up!
I love this flute so much, I call it my baby. My first flute is 43 years old, got steped on during marching band, so a key got bent, and things fall off. It was holding me back, and when I got this flute for Christmas, I got so much better. My private flute teacher keeps telling me that I got a really good flute. Its so nice!
I got this flute for Christmas since my student flute ( a bundy) was going in the shop every other month. This flute is simply amazing the upper notes easily speaks and so while as the lower notes. This is an amazing flute but if you get this flute keep your student model for marching band or other band activities that has a lot of wear tear on instruments.
I have been using the 3SHB for many years now, and every time I think I need an upgrade I get another compliment on how nice my tone is. There is a definite difference in weight/tone/etc. between this horn and a pro-level Yamaha/Pearl/Haynes/Murimatsu/etc., but for the price IMO this horn can't be beat! All of my (college-level) flute instructors have been very surprised by the sound that this horn gets! Highly recommend this horn to high school students, WW doublers/jazzers, or any semi-pro flutists on a budget
My daughter played an Armstrong flute I got when I was in high school for the last 4 years. It served her well (after a complete overhaul and cleaning!) until she was a freshman and the need arose for a B foot flute. My niece is a high school band director and she directed us to Woodwind & Brasswind to make our purchase. The new flute arrived quickly just in time for her last concert of the year ~ literally 2 hours prior! She loves it and so does her band director... yesterday at band camp she caught him sneak playing it! He agrees, it is a beautiful flute with a beautiful tone!
I started playing flute in sixth grade and I am currently a freshman in high school. My first flute, a cheap student model, was useful enough in learning the basics but I knew I needed a better flute to advance further. I find that the features on this flute, specifically the solid silver headjoint, B foot, and open tone holes, are neccessary for the proper step up at a very affordable price. Ever since I have used this flute, my tone has gotten remarkably better and it is much easier to play notes in the very high and very low registers. Vibrato comes smoothly and the action has a quick response. I would recommend this to any high school flautist who is seriously considering music as a career.
