I had never played piccolo before last year when the pic player in our band was going to miss the July 4th concert and handed me hers (Gemeinhardt silver head, silver-plate body) two days before saying you can do it. I decided that I needed to get my own and learn for this year. I've been a fan of Gemeinhardt flutes for 40 years so this piccolo was the obvious selection for me. Besides, it matches my Gemeinhardt flute. It has a bold, brilliant sound and is easy to play. All the players in the flute section love it and we take turns playing it. Highly recommended for either experienced or novice pic player.
This piccolo does have easy projection and it's tone is pretty good. The high notes up to high Bb come out very easily. High C can sometimes be tricky. I needed to get it repaired about a year after I purchased it because the keys were already out of allignment (I never dropped it or anything like that). The intonation can be a big problem. You will need a good ear to play tune. I would reccommend this piccolo, however if you can I would suggest getting a wooden one if you can afford it. If not, this is a good choice and I suggest getting the Gold Lip Plate.
