I've been playing a lot of piccolo for the past 5 years, and just this past year, I went to the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic and had the pleasure of demo-ing one of these piccolos. The grenadilla wood gives a beautiful, dark, rich tone. My friend and I had tons of fun playing Stars and Stripes Forever, because the sound is just so beautiful. I play on a Yamaha YPC32, and it's durable enough to haul around the marching band field three days a week, but it's sound quality cannot compare to the grenadilla wood. I recommend this piccolo without reserve.
