I ordered the Gemeinhardt P4 plastic headjoint for my Woodwind P2 piccolo, which came with a silver plated headjoint. It fit my P2 perfectly without needing any custom fitting. Compared to the metal headjoint: it is slightly harder to play, but not really hard. Took a day or two to get used to it and make a nice sound. Intonation is about the same. Tone quality or voice is much better. It has a more complex, softer, less piercing, & quot;woody & quot; sound. Big improvement. The blowhole required some dehorning from the factory cut. Pulling a small cleaning cloth through it a few times did the job. Also the head cork, when fully & quot;out & quot;, isn't out far enough according to the cleaning stick. But the highest register is in tune, and my Gemeinhardt P4, which has the same headjoint, was exactly the same, so it appears this is how it is designed. Overall it's a decent headjoint for a very good price.
I love to play piccolo and finally bought a used Gemeinhardt 4PMH that came with a metal headjoint. The cost of the plastic headjoint couldn't be beat! I really enjoy the sound with the plastic head and the versatility of having both heads to choose from. I played an all plastic piccolo in my college marching band and it was fantastic. They have a great sound and hold up really well. Plus on cold days, your lip doesn't get too cold from the metal!
I have a geminahardt 4w wood piccolo and i wanted 2 try drifferent thing with it so i got 1 of each head joint plastic, sterling silver silver plated and none of them fit my piccolo i was very up set but the all fit my silver piccolo i use for marching band. but its not what i wanted tho
