Getzen 1062FD Eterna Series Bass TromboneGetzen Bass Trombones1062FDThis dual bore .562"/.578" bass trombone is totally responsive to the players musical interpretation. From the dark round sound to bright and brassy, it gives the player whatever is needed. The instrument plays very freely through the open wrap valve section with very little difference in resistance from the open horn.

The 1062FD is a very good bass trombone for those beginning bass trombone studies or doubling periodically. It is very free blowing, due in part to the dual-bore slide. The rotors are fair, and with proper maintenance shouln't provide any major problems. For those with smaller hands the valve throw may feel a bit long. After 20 minutes of constant playing I found my left wrist beginning to hurt due to the weight and balance of the horn, but that can be easily remedied with any of the fine braces available. Compared to my normal horn this horn was much brighter in timbre which would lead me to use it in a jazz/pops setting.
i have played the holton 181, king duo gravis, and edwards B454. they're all fantastic horns, but upon playing a 1062fdr, i noticed that it is very easy to blend (or bark) and can play very dark or very brassy. i was surprised at how well the horn slots through the f and d valves, especially when making jumps of more than an octave. overall, i would play this in any setting a bass trombone is desired
This is a great bass trombone! I auditioned this instrument against other boutique makes/setups (such as Rath, Edwards, Shires, etc), and this instrument was the best one at the best price. The dual bore slide makes it a little to big for many beginners. NOT recommended for middle/high school students as a first bass trombone, but this is a great professional instrument (at a lower price point than the getzen custom and edwards instrument).
As to playability, this instrument is very flexible. I've recently played Tchailk 6 and Concerto for Orchestra with this instrument, and it gets that huge orchestral sound! I've also played this instrument in musical pit orchestras, jazz bands, and dance bands. It gives me the flexibility and consistency of tone to play it up high and down low with relative ease. With the original bell, it gets a little too bright for my taste, but then again I like really dark sounds!
Also worth mention, this instrument ships with three different edwards leadpipes, each of which can substantially alter the playability for many players. The threads are compatible with that of edwards custom bass trombone threads, so you can use normal edwards leadpipes in these instruments without any modification to the instrument or leadpipe.
These instruments are made of the same material, by the same people, and in the same factory as getzen custom instruments (they're also made to the same QC standards). You cant go wrong!
Additionally, these instruments take well to modification. I had a french horn style screw bell (a stock option on Holton TR-281 bass trombones) added and made interchangeable with the original bell by a prominent brass repair technician in New York City. The instrument was great before the modification, but now it blows every other bass I've tried out of the water! I know others in the past who have had similar modifications done to this model instrument, and all have had positive things to say about!
I recommend this instrument 100%! Don't let the fact that its marketed as a "Semi-Professional" instrument deter you: there is nothing semi-pro about it!
Okay I got this trombone the summer of 2006 it?s the begging of 2007 and it has been the best Trombone Even tone from double pedal Bb to double high Bb very smooth. Big sound, easy to play, no problems yet but this one will knock your socks off!!
I bought a Getzen 1062FD in 2006. Before purchasing this horn, I tested a Conn, Bach, Yamaha and Olds. The Getzen had by far the best slide, was very similar in tone to the Conn and was considerably cheaper than both the Conn and Bach. My setup is lead pipe #2 on a Schilke 60 for big band and choral work and a Dennis Wick 2 for orchestral. With the right air, this horn has the power to stand out in any jazz band, yet tastefully with a full and rich tone. This truly is a fantastic horn!
