Mike Vax Signature Model!

Getzen 3001MV Mike Vax Artist Model Bb Trumpet
The Getzen 3001MV Mike Vax Artist Series Bb Trumpet was designed in cooperation with famed trumpet performer and educator Mike Vax. The 3001MV Series features a .459-inch bore with a #172 taper, lightweight, gold brass bell. The combination of this bell along with the standard 3001 custom trumpet body, a lower tuning slide venturi, and lightweight bottom valve caps creates an instrument with a rich tone and outstanding response. The Getzen 3001MV Mike Vax Artist Series Bb Trumpet includes a 1C mouthpiece and wood shell case with external music pouch
The Getzen Artist Model trumpets are the perfect examples of how the Getzen ProShop works together with top trumpet players. This relationship and teamwork brings together years of experience building, designing, and playing professional trumpets. The result is the ultimate environment for the creation of a top line instrument.
All Getzen Artist Series instruments are covered by the Getzen Platinum Warranty which offers a lifetime guarantee against defects in workmanship and materials on all parts of the instrument. Getzen also offers a transferable Lifetime Valve Warranty which guarantees the piston valves are free from defects in workmanship and materials for the life of the instrument. Should any piston defect occur, Getzen will repair or replace the piston at their discretion.

I've had this horn, in lacquer, for some months now, and I have to say that from day one it blew me away. I happen to play a rather large mouthpiece, Curry 1B. Over the course of 35 years playing, mostly jazz/commercial, I tried shallower, smaller, but always came back to larger, deeper (sizable lip tissue in part to blame). Before I bought this horn, I tried a Xeno ML bore. It was too dark, way too dark. I have an older Bach that is only slightly dark but seems a little tight, an FE Olds '57 that is fine, but is a lot of work in the upper register. On this horn, the day I got it, I went cleanly up to F above high C very easily in the warm up. I could do this on my Olds Special, Bach 37, and Yamaha 6345 some days, but not most days. But on this amazing 3001MV, I ease up to F and G above high C nearly every warm up with what seems like half the effort I needed on those other horns. My take on this trumpet is this: the ML bore and the venturi in the tuning slide, I think, offer an amazingly clean air flow, and the 172 bell and metal content offer warmth of tone, but not so much that it affects projection. And believe me, playing a Curry 1B as my full-time mouthpiece (I'm not a lead player per se, but range up to G+ above high C routinely), if the configuration of this horn with the 172 bell were going to go too dark, it would have done that for me. But it doesn't do that, it is a nice, well-rounded tone, but it projects and it rings in the upper register (makes my ears ring sometimes). For me, this horn is amazing--and yes, the valves are amazing--and I wish I would have bought this horn years ago.

This may be a little out of the ordinary, but I couldn't let people start rumors. My first question for Mr. Williams is "Why did you purchase the MV model if you liked a 900 better?" The 900 is also a great horn that has been around for years, but I can tell you that the MV is a limited production model and every one that is made is spoken for as it leaves the factory. I have been playing it for over five years now and I love it. Please come and see me at the Midwest Convention in December, the TMEA convention in February, or the ITG convention in May and say hello. I'll be in the Getzen booth. I will also be performing with the Navy Commodores at Midwest.

The Getzen 3001 Mike Vax artist model is the best trumpet I've played in my 40 years of playing professionally. I've owned Bachs, Benges, Kings, Yamahas, Kanstuls and have played just about every brand out there...what this trumpet offers is an extremely rich and full tone in the middle and lower registers with an extremely easy upper register that sings...the ease of playability is fantastic! Playing an F just on top of the staff feels your playing a D in the staff...this is the first .459 medium bore horn that doesn't give that "backing up" feeling when you're going above a high C. An incredibly responsive horn, fantastic valves and intonation...you can't ask for more!

I understand they are not selling that well, and Getzen might not make it much longer. It's a dud to me, and doesn't sing and project like the 900S model, which I wished I would have bought instead.
