I have to admit that playing trumpet for so many years I am a bit of a trumpet junky. I have 5 Vintage Martin Committees, a mint King Silvertone Artist Bore, Schilke, B and S JBX, Lawler C7, etc... I love the sound of a rich warm horn that can sound very open in the upper register...I don't like the bright horn commercial sound since I'm a Jazz trumpet dude. I never owned a Getzen until I saw this 3003 and said "that's way cool"...but what does it sound like? Well, I finally broke down and snagged the Getzen 3003. The people at WWBW are so helpful in making it all happen. My horn arrived in a few days and I was blown away by the quality of the case and trumpet pouch. I must say that the horn is absolutely stunning...and built with the attention of a master craftsman. The horn comes with 2 leadpipes that float inside the outer tube so as to created undisturbed resonance. The valves are the best I have ever experienced...quiet, responsive and fast. The sound is like a vintage Committee with rich honey dripping overtones ideal for jazz. The slotting on this horn is so good it startled me..I used a strobe tuner and ran through a chromatic scale from low F# up to triple high C and every note was within 2 cents without using a single slide! The horn has some crook braces but the horn is not heavy..it's very well balanced and comfortable to hold. I highly recommend this trumpet it's worth every penny and is definitely a keeper!!
I've been playing for 35+ yrs (ugh). I have a good old Strad, Xeno 8445, etc. and this is a great horn for a lot of different music - best for stage band solo work. It's heavy and the bore is bigger than listed here (.464 at least) and it takes a lot for up register - more than my .462 XENO. The best valves I've seen - replaceable leadpipe is great and interchangeable with the Edwards versions of the same - I only use the Open pipe but it's a great system. The horn is bright so I use a large backbore mouthpiece (Pardoba 7) (also hurts range) for most genres, but sometimes use a smaller backbore mp (Shilke 14B4) for higher pieces.
The bore is definitely bigger than listed... which ended up being just fine for me. I had Carl Saunders (one of MF's lead trumpet players) play it and he said he had a rough time with the super high range. Hes not used to playing with any emphasis on a strong tone and Trombone Shorty plays this horn and rocks the high range in the most beautiful way. So the way I see it is you may have to work for range on this a bit... but the sound you'll get will be more pure than on a smaller horn. and the lead pipes are great. I use open mostly and then get the smaller one for the nights I have to have that extra kick and endurance.
