One of the best horns out there. I would change a thing. Including the thayer valve... it blew my expectations away, and I have VERY high standards.
If you're looking for a horn that will last you your entire life, this is the one. The tone quality is amazing with the red brass bell. The Thayer valve has barely any resistance so when you are using it it feels like you're just playing regularly. It's amazing. Easily one of the best horns out there AND you fit the instrument to YOU personally. Anything and everything you could want in a horn this has it!
For anyone that is not familiar with this trombone, get familiar with it! You do not know what you are missing out on. Great Sound, Very Flexible, Awesome Intonation! The folks at Getzen are as friendly as it gets, and there service is second to none. I highly recommend this horn for anyone that wants a great bone to play. If you are looking to swap bells,slides...then there are better choices out there. But, if you are ready to play, then this is the horn for you! I've had mine for 8 years, I have never wanted anything else.
After owning one of these for 9 years and comparing it to numerous horns of the same model, I can honestly say that for the price I paid It has served me well. Unfortunately, the Getzen custom series horns are not actually as consistently made as they are said to be, nor are they really any better than the equivalent Bach Strad. I have seen some of my colleagues do very well on these horns and I have seen an equal amount struggle tremendously. Many people often end up with the red bells when they really don't need them. All of their bells are spun very thick, meaning that they can handle loud dynamics well. However, at anything less than "loud" many players struggle to produce a good sound on these horns because of the thickness and composition of the materials. If you are looking for a new horn, do a test drive of a few different ones from different manufacturers. You just might be surprised at what ACTUALLY works for you.
