Getzen 390 Series Student Bb TrumpetGetzen 300 Series Trumpets have been used by many generations of beginning brass players. This is the first horn i started out with back in sixth grade and I?m still using it as a senior. I sit next to a Taylor Chicago series in concert and a Bach Strad on the field and I can consistently sound as good as both, although the Taylor is still better! I am currently looking at getting a new horn but the 390 is by far my favorite horn thus far
This was the first trumpet I ever owned. It worked great then and still does today. The valves are great and intonation is very consistent. If you can't afford a professional model this is the trumpet to get. Simply get a new mouthpiece (no one should use a 7C) such as a Bach 3C and you're ready to play!
I teach elementary band, and this is by far my favorite beginner trumpet. The valves are very reliable and will take the abuse of 10-12 year olds. The case is great too. Very lightweight, compact, and sturdy.
I am a professional musician and a Getzen endorsing artist. When I was a the Getzen factory testing the horns I was going to buy I played the 390's. I found these to be absolutely FANTASTIC horns for student model horns. I could use them on any gig. They are also VERY favorably priced. Then let's factor in the made in America thing! These horns are COMPLETELY built in Elkhorn, Wisconsin! NOTHING is outsourced overseas - not even the parts. Oh, did I mention the valves? Getzen makes the BEST valves in the business - PERIOD! All in all, I would urge any student to get one of these for their first horn. I would even encourage a pro to buy one!
I opted to purchase the starter instrument from this web site, although others were going to warehouse clubs or renting from music stores. I am very glad I did, because although I have now upgraded to a Bach Stradivarius for concert play, this Getzen is perfectly adequate for marching band. This instrument is a very good value and I plan to keep it for those times I do not want to use the professional trumpet.
