Got my Getzen Eterna Cornet about one month ago. Workmanship, valves, finish and overall construction excellent. Key are flawless and more quiet than my Bach Strad. I was disappointed with the sound, only because it sounded more like my Strad than like the sweet, dark and mellow cornet I was expecting. That was when I used the 7C that came with it. I ordered a Yamaha 14E and the sound was more of what I was expecting in a cornet: mellow, darker, favoring the lower register. The mouthpiece did make a difference. All I play is my Strad and the Getzen. I like each the same, but for different reasons. I want the different sound which I now have. The cornet is a little more comfortable as it is nearer to you and leaves more room between the bell of the horn and the music. I can find no faults with it. Someone wrote it is a spit collector. I have not noticed this in my horn. The case is sturdy, solid. A very good value for the price.
The Getzen Eterna cornet is an absolutely rock-solid instrument; well made with a nice heft to it; pristine silver plating; case is well designed (I particularly like the storage section for music); the Getzen valves, of course, are FLAWLESS. I get a really deep, rich tone with this axe, and some of my my fellow band-mates in a British Brass Band that I play in, were blown away by the sound. I highly recommend this instrument and am looking forward to doing some really serious playing with it for a long, long time.
Just received my Getzen Eterna 800 series cornet with the gorgeous gold brass bell and it is everything that I could ask for and more. The valves are fantastic in keeping with the Getzen name. Everything is perfect, the construction and the finish. It blows freely and sound great from the bottom to the top of its range. It puts Bach and the others to shame, and for much less money.
I've played this horn for 2 years now, primarily in a Dixieland Jazz Band and Marching/Concert Bands and on occasion for Broadway Musicals. It is a nimble horn with Great Intonation & a Sweet Sound. However, it is a spit-collector. The Amado water keys don't do the job- especially on the tuning slide. I am constantly pulling the tuning slide out to empty. The horn's tuning slide configuration being mounted so low on the horn and being the same size as a conventional 3rd valve slide may be a contributing factor.
I bought the 800S in the fall of 2001, after having test played every Bb cornet then offered. It was hands-down the best of them all. Whether you are playing bel canto, cornet solos or hot dixieland jazz, the horn responds, and plays in tune. It's well-balanced, and just feels "right" when you pick it up. The low register can't be beat. If you're playing 2d or 3rd cornet in a brass band, this horn will help your part be heard, without a lot of work on your part.
