Giardinelli GFL512 Intermediate Flute with Gold Lip PlateThe Giardinelli GFL512 Intermediate Flute with Gold Lip Plate is produced for us by special request. These flutes are known for their extreme reliability, consistency, great tone, and playability. Drawing on our extensive knowledge of musicians' needs and desires, we have commissioned a select few high-value flutes to be made exclusively for us.A fantastic value for an intermediate flute, the GFL512 is an open-hole French model featuring an ergonomic offset G key for less playing stress and greater familiarity to players just graduating from a student model flute. The offset G makes playing fast passages easier and also makes it easier to cover the open hole with a finger. The flute's solid silver headjoint produces a warm, resonant tone with clean, precise response. The gold-plated lip plate is hypoallergenic, feels nicer than silver, and provides a very luxurious look. The Giardinelli GFL512 flute has a silver-plated body and foot joint that are visually stunning and durable, maintaining precision alignment of the keys. A low B footjoint increases the flute's low range and improves intonation in the upper register. The GFL512 flute's gizmo key makes it easier to play a high C. The Giardinelli GFL512 Flute includes an attractive French-style case with cover.

After having read the product description on this flute, I chose to purchase it as a loaner when my students needed to bring their instruments to the shop. My goal was to get a flute that would be satisfactory to students used to their intermediate and proffessional level flutes, rather than run the rish of getting a tinny loaner from the shop. This flute, I will admit, is cheap for the features it has to offer, such as the low B and open holes. That's where my praise ends. My students play on a variety of instruments, and I'm used to both amazing and horrible sounds. The GFL512, though, has the second worst tone I've ever heard(after the Etude model). Neither I, nor any of my students, could make it sound even scarcely full or rich. I've taken it to two different repairmen, and they are completely baffled by it. No instrument with a silver head joint shoud sound this flat! I don't know if my particular flute is representative of the model; it could just have been made misaligned, but with my knowldege, I would not recommend this instrument. THe best beginner flute I have ever seen was the reasonably priced Gemeinhardt 2SP, which I would say is far more superior to this "intermediate" model. As for intermediate and proffessional flutes, the entire Pearl flute line is excellent. The Quantz series has a large range of prices and features. All models have excellent sound, uncommon even in higher end instruments.
I don't own this flute, but a close friend of mine does and I've played it many times. I found this flute to be incredibly hard to play and even harder to make sound nice. The high register was really airy and lacked in tone quality. I could hardly hit anything above a high G. This flute is better suited to a younger player looking for a cheap step up, but even then I wouldn't recommend it.
Being a relatively new flute player, I was concerned about some of the adverse comments about this particular model. After having it tested by a flutist in the local classical orchestra and also my local repair man, I am very happy to say that both remarked that this was a very nice playing instrument. Previously I have always been very satisfied both with the products and service
A very good intermediate flute. wonderful response and a beautiful instrument. Perfect for the intermediate flutist.
I have had this flute for 3+ years and it has worked great. I would prefer a darker sounding flute but this one plays well in all registers without sounding airy or squeaky. It it easy to play and looks very nice. It plays in tune very well. It came packaged well and has a sturdy case.
