If you play an old drum kit with an original rail tom mount like I do, then you know just how difficult it can be to get your mounted tom right where you want it. You pretty much have to compromise since your positioning choices are so limited. That’s why I decided to get the Gibraltar Vintage Rail Mount as soon as I found out about it. The idea of actually being able to put my mounted time right where I wanted it was pretty motivating after many years of compromise. I have to say, this unit is pretty terrific. You can swap it for your original mount, no drilling required (and no new holes in your vintage kick drum!) It fit perfectly into the original mount holes in my Gretsch kick. The Gibraltar mount allows you to raise the height of your tom, something you could never do with the traditional Rail Consolette. You can adjust the Gibraltar in every axis, and pretty much put your tom exactly where you want it. The Gibraltar Vintage Rail Mount is strong and appears to be well made, and its bright and shiny chrome plating looks a lot sharper on my kit than the pitted and worn Rail Consolette it replaced. Best of all, the Gibraltar unit has nice big comfortable butterfly nuts you can securely tighten by hand: no more need to carry tools to adjust your tom mount! My only complaint about the Gibraltar Vintage Rail Mount is that mine came with the shell attachment bolts inserted upside down in the base plate. No big deal, except that I had to remove the rail from the base plate in order to insert the bolts the right way. This was easy to do, but it should have been done at the factory. That one complaint aside, I’d rate the Gibraltar Vintage Rail Mount 5 stars. I’m glad I bought it.
