OVERVIEW

A modern edition of one of Gibson's most revered models.

A true legend of acoustic instruments, the Gibson Hummingbird Pro acoustic-electric guitar was first introduced in 1960 as Gibson's earliest square-shoulder dreadnought guitar. Superb for all styles of playing, with a capacity for rich, first-position folk chords and intricate solo playing, the Gibson Hummingbird quickly became an iconic acoustic line, and a favorite among legends like Gram Parsons and Keith Richards. The Hummingbird has been one of Gibson Acoustic's most enduring guitar line.

This 2016 model features a comprehensive Plek-assisted setup for exceptional action and performance. Speaking of which, the fingerboard edge has been softened to make it fit the contour of your hand and a finer grit sandpaper and polishing compounds in the high gloss finish make it easier to slide up and down the neck with ease. The fingerboard and bridge have been hand rubbed and oiled to help them last longer and maximize the rosewood's natural vibrancy. It also has an engraved truss rod cover and L.R. Baggs Element VTC pickup so you can enjoy it when your sound needs the bump of amplification.

Includes hardshell case.

Body tonewoods (back, sides and top)

The body design of the Gibson Hummingbird Pro acoustic electric guitar is known as a square shoulder dreadnought. The top is made from Sitka spruce, while the back and sides are constructed from mahogany, giving the Hummingbird True Vintage a perfectly balanced midrange tone, with unbiased rich lows and clear treble registers. Selecting the right wood, and the formula to dry it out, are two of the most central procedures to Gibson's guitar-building process.

Rosewood fingerboard with traditional binding and split parallelogram inlays

The resilience of rosewood makes the fingerboard extremely balanced and stable, and gives each chord and note unparalleled clarity and bite. The Gibson Hummingbird Pro guitar's split parallelogram inlays are made of genuine mother of pearl, and are inserted into the fingerboard using a process that eliminates gaps and doesn't require the use of fillers. The fingerboard also sports traditional binding over the fret ends, which was a staple feature of many classic Gibson acoustic guitars for many years.

Bracing
Every acoustic electric guitar made by Gibson features hand-scalloped, radiused top bracing inside the body, a feature normally found only in limited run, handmade guitars. By scalloping each brace by hand, the natural sound of the acoustic guitar is focused more toward the center of the body, enhancing the guitar's sound projection. Gibson Acoustic's Hummingbird Pro guitar sports a single "X" bracing pattern similar to the design inside vintage Gibson J-30s. This traditional pattern delivers a balanced midrange tone, with unbiased lows and rich, clear highs, producing a warm tone that has been a favorite among artists and players alike since the original Gibson Hummingbird guitars introduced in 1960.

L.R. Baggs Element VTC acoustic pickup system

The L.R. Baggs Element Active System VTC undersaddle acoustic pickup delivers performance previously unattainable from an undersaddle pickup. The streamlined and efficient design removes every unnecessary internal component to improve the coupling between the transducer and the guitar. This substantially improves the sensitivity of the transducer so the acoustic guitar pickup delivers a robust, lively, and open sound with great dynamics and a delicate high end.

Nickel Grover Rotomatic tuners

Grover's original Rotomatic tuners are an engineering marvel, with abundant style and performance exactly suited for the Gibson Hummingbird guitar. With a gear ratio of 14:1, the Rotomatics deliver precision tuning in a durable housing that provides maximum protection for the gear and string post. All moving parts are cut for exact meshing, eliminating the possibility of slippage. A countersunk tension screw lets players regulate the tuning tension to any degree. A special lubricant inside the gear box provides smooth and accurate tuning stability.

Crown peghead logo

Gibson put the first crown peghead logo on an ES-300 back in 1940, and it has graced the headstocks of many legendary Gibson guitars ever since, including today's Hummingbird Pro acoustic electric guitar.

Rosette

A rosette is the beautiful, hand-crafted circle around the sound hole, and can be one of the most ornamental elements of any acoustic guitar. It is also one of the most subtle and complicated woodworking decorations on any acoustic guitar. The rosette on the Gibson Hummingbird Pro guitar is a double-ring rosette, with the main ring consisting of seven-ply binding, and the second ring three-ply binding, adding a stylish, understated elegance to the Gibson Hummingbird True Pro acoustic-electric guitar.
