OVERVIEW

A perfect combination of classic features and modern versatility.

The Gibson SG Standard '61 with Coil Tap Electric Guitar combines all the familiar features of a standard SG, and a little more. It has a mahogany body and neck. The rosewood fretboard has trapezoid inlays, but without the 2014 anniversary inlay and it comes with standard vintage-style tuners.

This model is called the '61 because it has a smaller pickguard that's identical to the original models from that year. Electronics include '57 Classic pickups in both positions. These have the most vintage sound that Gibson can offer. This SG guitar also comes with push/pull coil-taps on the volume pots and a chrome tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece. Hardshell case included.

New To SG

While I've never felt the need to own a Gibson SG, I finally got the bug and after some research, settled on this exclusive version. It had to have coil-taps, Classic '57 pickups, stop tailpiece, and standard (non-MinE-) tuning. What I received was that and more. In short, it's a very playable, balanced guitar with a variety of tones. I can now see why the SG has become a long-term success story. This version's push-pull volume pots allow for one or both pickups to be tapped, so whether the neck pickup is selected, or the bridge, or both, one can find a satisfying sound. I had heard that there could be balance issues with a light body and heavy neck. Not true, as the balance is just right. Also, I've heard a couple of scare stories about setup issues. Not true, again. This was ready to rock right out of the hard-shell case after a normal tuning. I've had champagne tastes on a beer budget, so naturally I ordered the champagne finish. It's a great look. Because of the double cutaways, one has easy access to the upper neck. and the neck feel is another plus to this guitar. It's obvious now why the SG is an icon. Also, I was impressed with Woodwind & Brasswind from ordering to delivery.
