I purchased my Songwriter in Dec. 2003. I played it for about 6 months, then had it professionally set up. The strings were lowered a bit, and now it plays perfectly. It tunes 100% all over, and that's the important thing above all! Cosmetically speaking, it?s a beautiful instrument! The natural finish on the body is complimented by the brown headstock, sides and back. The m.o.p. parallelograms really enhance the rosewood neck beautifully. Its passive electronics have a lot more punch than one might expect. Your amp can control the bass/treble/middle. The acoustic sound that comes out is totally incredible!! Played acoustically, it sounds like a Gibson should, mellow, clear, definable! Truly one of Gibson's best models. If you're going to spend good money for a guitar, GET THIS ONE!! You'll be awfully glad you did!!
I have had this guitar a little over a year. I searched for "the guitar" for just over a year till I found this one. I love this guitar more and more all the time, it is such a rich full sounding guitar. I will have this for the rest of my life.
Very impressive guitar. I wanted an acoustic with more bass than my Taylor 615-ce, and this Gibson really covers ALL the bases. Rosewood back and sides always impart better bass response, although some dreadnaught bodied guitars can be a bit boomy and muddy. Not this one! Plays great finger style or flat picked, and stands up well to moderate strumming before breaking up if you strum very hard. I love the sound hole volume control and the lack of a cut-out in the body for a typical Fishman Pre-Fix Plus preamp. The only drawback with this model, as compared to my ES equipped Taylor, is that this Gibson is subject to quite a bit of feedback issues when playing live. Even with a Boss AC-3, which has feedback controls on it, I am having difficulty in eliminating feedback when playing live. Heard great things about a sound hole cover from Lute Hole, and have ordered one of these to try to solve the feedback issues. Otherwise, this is a beautiful guitar with wonderful sound. Got rid of the cheap plastic bridge pins, and replaced them with a set of custom bone pins. These improved the already great sustain that this model features. Plus, it's a Gibson and they always hold their value for resale down the road. Be sure to put this guitar on your shopping list!
I am obsessed with acoustic guitars, and have played as many as possible. I was originally looking at a Martin due to their longevity and overall quality, but Gibson makes this Songwriter Deluxe; an acoustic electric, rosewood bodied, MOP sound hole and parallelogram inlaid beauty with an eye catching pick guard for the same price as the average, boring Martin. (Sorry Martin fans) The neck is smooth and comfortable and the slightly smaller dreadnaught body seems easier to manipulate and hold while still giving the volume and punch of a well crafted guitar. If you're looking for something that will last forever and hold its value, this Gibson is a must!!
Purchased the Gibson Deluxe Songwriter from WWBW, two years ago. Truly a Gibson Gem. This guitar just keeps increasing in value. Owning a Gibson is owning the best of a lifetime.
