Comments about Giddings & Webster Matanuska Series for Tuba:

PICTURE IS WRONG!! The Matanuska is light weight MP. BUT... I LOVE my Matanuska. .. I will NEVER play a brass mouthpiece again! My local Orchestra is playing Jupiter & Mars by Holst. This MP brings it on. Consistent written middle C is happening! (f is possible) Warm tone for stainless; I like the tone, not quite as strong as a heavy weight though. I play other mouthpieces for Band, Quintet, and Pit Orchestra concerts. Horn: MiraFone BBb 184 (a smaller horn of 1980 vintage; not a newer MiraPHone but I love ?em all). The horn was purchased new with a Mirafone C4 mp. Also played this horn with a Conn/Helleberg. There was always something off with the sound using either the C4 or the C/H mouthpiece, especially the C/H. Pitch issues, tone issues, range issues, endurance issues. When I got my first G&W my range popped UP a full augmented 3rd and another 3rd with this mp. And the bottom range plays easier. Now the pitches slot and tone is improved. That's with all my G&W mouthpieces. With my G&Ws I can not only compete for volume and tone with my smaller horn, but am easily heard. Lastly, Per Ivan Giddings of Giddings & Webster: American or Standard Shank is SMALLER European Shank is LARGER
