I have gone through different companies over the past decade for reeds. Rico, Vandoren, Michele Lurie were my major brands that I have tried. My experience with Gonzalez F.O.F 3.5 Bb clarinet reeds is nothing short of spectacular. When you open a box of these reeds, you are going to get an almost full box of high quality "concert ready" reeds as they claim. They are not exaggerating. One point to test, take a Vandoren, or whatever you were playing, and a Gonzalez reed over a light, and compare the grain. The consistency of Gonzalez reeds material-wise is exceptional. The grain is perfectly even, with little to no bark. These reeds will not squeak easily, so they are dependable reeds. The sound is so full too, because of the butt of the reeds. Take a Michele Lurie, Vanoren, and Gonzalez reed, and compare butts. The Gonzalez gives you that thick dark "German" sound, with the articulation of "French" reeds. I am most satisfied with them, and would not dare to change reed companies.

I think someone told a fib on the quality of these reeds. Out of the box, only 1 was actually usable, and it wasn't even all that good anyways. Let me tell you whats wrong: I took all the neccesary steps to break in each of these reeds and they seemed to work for a bit, and then every reed went downhill(except for the par reed). They were especially unstable in the lower register, most notably open G, D, C and low G. Each and every note was accompanied by a faint but EXTREMELY annoying airy sound that no other reed gave me. So then I did a little research and found out that Gonzalez F.O.F 3.5s were harder than Vandoren V12 3.5s. So then it all made sense and I knew I would eventually get used to them. Well after a month they're still unstable and I knew I got used to them because they were more responsive. I play on a Vandoren 5RV Lyre, suited for 3.5, 3.5+ and 4... for Vandoren reeds. Maybe I got a bad box or the reeds were a bit too hard for my mouthpiece. Next time I'm getting 3s

Best reed brand ever!

Comments about Gonzalez F.O.F Bb Clarinet Reeds:

I have been playing on vandoren reeds forever and this last year switched to V12's. I love them but the only thing that frustrates me is all the bad reeds in a box of 10. I would get about 2 really nice reeds and would have to scrap about 4 reeds. When I opened up the Ganzolez box and tried the first reed it was perfect. I went through the whole box and only found 2 that were to be considered 'bad' they can be easily adjusted and fixed. The tone quality and flexibility these reeds give you is phenomenal! I would suggest them to anyone who wants to get more bang for their buck!

Comments about Gonzalez F.O.F Bb Clarinet Reeds:

The FOF Reeds play like a dream! I don't know why I've waited so long to try them, but am I happy I finally did. One shopping tip - let's say you use Vandoren Rue 56 in 3-1/2. You will want Gonzalez FOF in 3-1/4.

Great reeds, but YOU have to be ready for them.

Comments about Gonzalez F.O.F Bb Clarinet Reeds:

These reeds are modeled after the old Morre reed that Marcellus used to use. Their profile is steeper then the Vandoren V-12 which a lot of people use.. thicker heal and thinner tip. But, if you are the kind that likes to "chew on the reed" as Marcellus used to say, you are probably not going to like them. They work best on close facing mouthpieces, and ARE NOT CONSISTENT in terms of strength; I can use about 50% of them. But when you get a good one, there is nothing like them for that Marcellus sound.

Comments about Gonzalez F.O.F Bb Clarinet Reeds:

After trying several reed brands, including, Mitchell Laurie, Vandoren Traditionals and others of Vandoren, I came across the Gonzalez F.O.F. Reeds, let me just say right out of the box i saw they were all well centered except for two and even with the 4 3/4 I ordered, they respond almost perfectly to light and staccato, these are just great reeds!

Gonzalez reeds-1st brush

Comments about Gonzalez F.O.F Bb Clarinet Reeds:

Based upon my 1st try of 6 Gonzalez reeds, I don't find them to be particularly good. I've been playing on Vandoren's for many years & I find normally 7-8 of 10 in a box that will work for me after a bit of adjustment. I've found so far 1 Gonzalez that might work but even that's not assured. I'll try them again several times to see, but normally they would show more promise when I 1st try them.

The Best Reeds Ever

Comments about Gonzalez F.O.F Bb Clarinet Reeds:

I have tried Rico, Vandoren, Mitchell-Lurie, and Vandoren V12 reeds, and went to Gonzalez just this year. The only other reeds that come close to comparing with these are the V12's. These reeds give a nice, dark sound, and I recommend these for any students and maybe any professionals.

These reeds have a very warm sound and are very consistent throughout each box. Even the reeds that are not as good are playable for practice reeds etc.

Comments about Gonzalez F.O.F Bb Clarinet Reeds:

I've used these reeds for a little over a half a year. I get a great orchestral tone with it. The reed didn't warp when I left in the rain and then hot/ humidity for a week. They're also good because they come at least 7 years aged.

Comments about Gonzalez F.O.F Bb Clarinet Reeds:

I have tried many reeds before, including Mitchell Lurie, Rico, Rico Royal, and Vandoren, but none came close to the performance and consistency of Gonzalez reeds. The reeds have a dark, rich tone, and I find that high notes, starting with two above the staff, are easier to play than some other reeds, but with better quality. The reeds are very consistent, 80% of the reeds in the box are performance quality, whereas some other brands only have 10 to 30%.
