I bought this original guitar in Norfolk VA while in the navy in 1964. What a masterpiece!! I enjoyed every feature of this fine instrument and played at all opportunities. Since I was aboard a US Navy ship, the USS Newport News, a heavy cruiser, I spent many hours between duty shifts playing along with a few shipmates. All, of course asked when they could borrow the Gretsch.
I took leave upon arrival back in Norfolk in 1965, and took the beloved Gretsch with me for a few days of travel fun. Upon arrival back on base, I parked my car at the end of the navy pier, guarded by two seamen, and went aboard the ship, to check-in. An hour later I returned to my car to find the MGB convertible top slashed and all my belongings stolen.....including the Gretsch. The thieves even took my gear shift knob and floor mats! Of course, no one saw anything.
Never saw it again, and my love for playing dwindled. Now I am too old to buy another, but get very nostalgic when I see one. Would I recommend one to you,...what do you think? You will never be dissatisfied with the quality and ease of playing the Gretsch.
I forgive the person that took mine, and maybe someday it might just show up...I would love to play the Gretsch again.
