I purchased my 1622 three days ago and am very pleased with it. The tone and playability are wonderful. The hardware is first rate, and beautifully finished in a high polished gold. The switches are very solid and clean and the pots are silent. I have played it through my Legend amplifier and my son's Peavey Valve King, with the distortion pumped up and the amps clean, and this beauty kicks butt. The bass strings thunder and the highs twang with delight. The guitar stays in tune even after pounding on the bigsby. I really don't know how Ive done without this guitar for so many years. I put my Les Paul away and my Strat doesn't get much attention either. The Gretsch 1622 is the king of guitars
I bought my Country Gentleman in the early seventies, and have played it a lot. It still looks new and sounds new. Paid $875.00 for it and I think it has been a great investment. I don't think a reissue will ever be a good as the first ones, but with the technology we have today, who knows.
