Guardala MBII Tenor Saxophone MouthpieceThe Guardala MBII tenor saxophone mouthpiece helps you capture the fusion sound that defined the 1980s. The Guardala MBII offers plenty of edge but also reproduces the fat, bottom sound associated with the greatest tenor saxophonists of the last 25 years.

Was not impressed when I first played this MP with the included ligature. Was about to send the MP back when I decided to order a BG metal ligature. What a difference a ligature makes. The ligature that comes with this MP is pretty much a "Throw away". The MBII has just the right balance of edge and body. The sound has a good "core" to it. Intonation is the best I have ever played. Low notes don't honk and the altissimo is easily jumps out.
I have played on the Studio mpc for years now and finally was able to order the MBII.
It plays like a Guardala. Free blowing, powerful,
and in tune. Slightly larger overall sound with a greater ease of blowing. More ballsy in the low register which is pretty amazing since the Studio is a powerful mouthpiece in it's own right.
There are sites that have $600 and $700 copies of these mouthpieces, but I don't see the reason to pay more.
I am very demanding when it comes to mouthpieces and Guardala has definitely spoiled me.
the workmanship on these mouthpieces is flawless to my eye.
I have read that, in blinfold tests , the CNC mpc is picked about half the time,in the comparisons with the old handmade pieces, so again, why pay north of $1000 for a funky looking old mpc, when you can have a great looking new one.?
I use this on my old Conn 10m. It seems to smooth out the intonation of these vintage horns well. After finding the right ligature/reed combination, it is easy to play with a good sound in any register or dynamic level. Although it is a VERY bright mouthpiece, I surprisingly have no difficulty darkening it up when needed, producing a tone somewhat similar to an old Otto Link. Guardala's manufacturing seems to be consistent, so finding a good one online is easy. With that being said, this mouthpiece requires a flatter (unwarped) reed and steadier embouchure than many modern mouthpieces, or else it can get out of control. Other complaints: the silver plating is fragile and the stock ligature doesn't work with the mouthpiece at all.
Could be a good piece but it is quite open. Puzzling that there are no tip sizing options. I guess they may envision a system with a very soft reed (2.5).
It might be an unbelievable mouthpiece. I never got to put the MBII to the playing test. Are you serious WWBW for sending out a ligature that you can't put a reed on with? That ligature could barely fit a toothpick, let alone put a reed on! Let me look through my home inventory of ligatures to try to find one that will fit the mouthpiece... or go to the local music store to buy a usable lig for a trial piece. I am embarrassed for WWBW for sending out an incompatible ligature for what might be a great mouthpiece! Get a WWBW product specialist to select a ligature that can be used for this mouthpiece. It might improve your sales for the MBII!
