I bought this saxophone needing a back-up instrument and hoping it would be one of the B&S Guardalas. The one I received is obviously not as it is not stamped "Made in Germany". I agree with other reviewers and online forum participants that it is probably from the Amati factory. I am most impressed with its tone and general construction. It has excellent features and ergonomics and most of all, I am able to produce the classical tone I want with it. YMMV (your mileage may vary), as they say, but it is working incredibly well for me. I am having to do a little work with side and palm key adjustment, mostly adding cork to bring notes down to pitch. I do not consider the need for this kind of tech work to be unusual. There is a fault in the octave key that I do consider a problem (it doesn't open properly with the neck straight on) - at least on my horn - but this instrument still rates 5 stars.

In the 90's, the Guardala saxes became well known as the best Mark VI copy ever made. They had Guardala overseeing the production and B&S making the saxes. These newer horns appear to be made by Amati. Although a very nice horn for the price, these should not be confused with the earlier Guardalas. The latest model has a nice, compact sound while still being free blowing. There are some small response and tuning issues typical of almost all intermediate horns. Still, these are an excellent value for the price. Just don't expect them to perform like a top level pro horn as the B&S Guardalas did.
