In the past I have tried Beechler Bellite,Dukoff,
Berg Larsen,Ponzol, and the Runyon Quantum to try and find a good R&B tenor mouthpiece. When the
Guardala Super King arrived from WWBW.com I was
expecting to try it and send it back like I did
with the others. Well, the Guardala Super King is
definitely not going back. It has the right amount of edge and power and the altissimo is
awesome. Getting comfortable with this mouthpiece
was very easy.
I was using a vintage Dukoff S6 that was doing a great job but the tip was getting worn. I bought this used and it does have some discoloration due to the ligature being stored with it. But wow the sound was great open and not shrill. Nice sound for R&B but I can still round it out for big band work. It's a great little piece.
I decided to use the trial program on tenor sax mouthpieces. I decided to try the Selmer C**, Vandoren V16-T95 and the Guardala Super King. Well, by far the Guardala outshined them all. It even played better than the Selmer. Actually, I was a little disappointed with the Selmer. I will keep the Guardala and would highly recommend this mouthpiece to every saxophone player. Thank you woodwind and brasswind for making my life a lot brighter.
I saw the most magnificent saxophonist performing at an arts and crafts festival in Henderson,Nevada. I am a saxophonist and after the show I picked his brain. His name is Joe Escriba and he was playing a "Guardala Super King" Gold plated mouthpiece on his tenor sax. He had insane altissimo ability. Mark Russo of the
Doobie Brothers formerly of the Yellow Jackets is one of the best sax players in the world, So is smokin Joe Escriba. It took three months from the time I ordered one for myself to receive. I'm pllaying it today. Great price right now.
I've been playing this mouthpiece for almost two years. It's excellent to get a bright, edgy, powerful tone in all the sax range.
