WOW !!! Magnificent Horn !!!...I have never written a review until now, but I never played a horn like this till now...30 years playing horn..I play 1st horn in 2 local orchestras and 2 bands I have played Conn 8D, the new Conn 8D vintage, Yamaha 668, Holton 179, Atkinson Eurfort...The beauty, the power/volume without the rasp, the terrific slotting, smooth mechanical linkage...do yourself a favor and get this wonderful horn...the mouthpieces I use are the Yamaha 29 C4, and the Holton Farkas SC ( shallow cup )
I love this horn. I bought one last year and love its rich tonal quality and range in all registers. It is a great joy to play and allows precise intonation for both delicate and robust passages. This is a professional horn with large bore aerodynamics and flawless metalurgical craftmanship. Mechanical linkages are well designed and glide easily. I'm a mechanical engineer and have played my Conn 8D for many years. I use a Schilke 32 mouthpiece (large bore). Caution: this horn weighs a little more than my Conn and the brass is soft. I put a real nice Ding in the bell. Also, it is unlaquered, however, the patina can be removed with a little brass polish. If you want to make beautiful music, this is your horn. The back-pack carrying case is pretty nice too.
I usually don't write reviews before having owned and played a few performances with any instruments that I purchase, but I've never really came across any horns that warranted such a quick response. Plays very even across all registers and all dynamics. When I want a warm, soft floaty tone for Pachelebel Canon in brass quartet, it's got it. When I want that big fat LA horn sound for orchestra and studio work, it delievers amazingly. Excellent horn and I look forward to having it for many years to come
