Description
Perfect for Jazz, Rock, and Pop Playing!
  • Lasts 20-30 times longer than cane reeds
Play immediately, no soaking or break-in period
Extremely resistant to warping and splitting
    Perfectly consistent
    Never dries out
Easy to clean, resulting in a hygienic and odorless reed even after months of play
    Made in Germany

Harry Hartmann Carbon Fiberreed Tenor Saxophone Reed
The Harry Hartmann Carbon Series Fiberreeds use high-tech carbon fiber with hollow connecting fiber. The interweaving of the different fibers results in a very true feeling reed. The weave of the fibers is designed to emulate natural cane in ways that no other synthetic reed can. The Carbon fiberreeds reproduce the tendencies of natural cane to be very strong towards the outside (the bark) and more resonant yet not soft at the heart, while being very flexible at the vamp.

The result is a very full sound with direct response and a beaming upper register. The top choice of pop and jazz musicians.

"Good but manufacturing seems inconsistent"

I have bought 4 of these reeds now. Overall they play well with lots of control especially for swing/jazz. My concerns with them are two fold: 1. Manufacturing seems inconsistent....two of the reeds have had "burrs" on them when the lip sits on the reed (on first use) and have had to not be used. 2. There seems to be no translation of Med = 3 or whatever....so it is hard to know what strength to buy.

""The price is nothing compared to how much fun playing will be""

After playing this reed for a week, I'm lovin' it. It plays easily, responds lightening fast and simply sounds great. Watch out rhythm section, now I can blow over you. I found out I had to experiment with different types of ligatures and placement of the reed on the mouthpiece table to achieve the right sound and feel. I could never get the sound, intensity, focus and feel for my horn like I'm getting now. The price of the reed is nothing compared to how much fun playing will be. I highly recommend HH Carbon Fiberreed. I am now a member of the cane mutiny. Good luck!

"The only way I can for the right fit is to custom cut for the right sound."

I have some problems with picking the right size for me so I started custom cutting the right sound I needed to hear for me, so I can control the highs and the lows best for me. I notice that some sizes are good for the lows and some sizes are good the highs so this is way I do this. But over all the reeds last much longer only if you take care of them the right way like removing them and cleaning and drying them after each play time. (SAXYNEIL)

"great sounding reed"

by volantis McKnight - 9/13/2013 10:14:34 AM  Share
Musical Experience: Style of Music: Hometown:
student for 4 years all kinds of music Houston,tx

i had this reed for a whole year and when it was in use it sounded great! i'd recommend it for marching as it can produce a bright loud sound and would be suitable for marching.though if playing classical i'd advise you use a wooden reed for a dark tone. this reed could be used for classic but would not have the same sound as wood for obvious reasons. although it your decision if you'd use it for that or not after all. one thing i really liked about his reeds is because it will never honestly warp on you and you'll never have to soak it. the reason i only had it for one year though is because i accidentally once chipped it and it still played good but it ran into another accident far greater than the first time and was decommissioned. i'd recommended this to any player look for a cool different sound

"Not A Good Buy"

I bought a "medium hard" Fiberreed months ago and tried it on both of my tenors. It was muted and difficult to get any tone. I haven't tried to make any changes and feel I shouldn't need to, considering the price. I put the reed away for months and tried it again just to see if it sounded any different to me. It did not; still muted and lifeless on everything from a classical style mouthpiece to my most radical jazz piece. I wouldn't mind paying this much for a really good reed, but the one I bought was simply worthless. I gave it two stars since it would at least make a sound; just not a good one.

"Looks good, sounds good but a good value?"

by Rich Ullman - 3/25/2012 2:57:20 PM  Share
Musical Experience: Style of Music: Hometown:
Saxophonist since 1980 jazz, swing, blues Maine

I received my Harry Hartmann Carbon Fiberreed for tenor sax on 3-24 (just in time to play on a gig). I play tested the reed at home and was impressed with the ease of playing and volume the reed produced. Not at all dead sounding but lively with a good feel throughout the range of the instrument. I emailed Harry Hartmann through his website last week inquiring about his reeds, and still have not received a response. I played the new reed for 2 hours on my gig where it cut into the left corner of my lower lip. This morning I discovered the tip of the reed has chipped and is uneven. Using an emery board I managed to re-shape the tip the best I could. I'm not sure if that will save the new reed I just shelled out $31.45 for. During the last 3 years I have been playing Fibracell brand reeds over and over and I'm still playing them. There have been a few issues with them as well but they hold up better in the long run and I have never been cut. I can purchase 3 of them for the price of 1 Harry Hartmann Carbon Fiberreed.

I haven't yet tried the standard HH reeds, but this Carbon version is amazing. I prefer it on both my Soprano and Tenor. Like many, I have HATED synthetic reeds for various reasons. However, this synthetic sounds/feels real, is easy to play, and reliable. Contrary to another review, the HH Carbon fits very well on my narrow-faced Couf metal mouthpiece. If I were an environmentalist, I'd prohibit the use of cane reeds and require all saxophonists to use the HH Carbon reed. JOKING, of course.

In the product pic is shown a reed with a nice V- shaped heart, that's why i ordered them What I got were reeds with "O" heart at all which were cut straight across with no heart The reed played GREAT until you start the altissimo then it completely fades because there is no heart in the reed to support the altissimo vibration variance. THE REED HAD NO V-SHAPED HEART as shown in the pic. I tried the Med Hard on my Guardala MBII and it was too soft. I tried the Fibracell 4.5 and it SMOKED this reed hands down in all registers. If HH reeds had a V-shaped heart they would be superior to the Fibracells, but they don't. Reed is great below high F, but it's usless to me who plays all night above high F.

"Great reed"

These are expensive but they play great. Loud, clean, accurate. It appears that a down side of fibre reeds is saliva buildup in the mouthpiece...cane absorbs some moisture. I have tried several other fibre reeds and this was by far the best.
