Harry Hartmann Carbon Fiberreed Tenor Saxophone ReedThe Harry Hartmann Carbon Series Fiberreeds use high-tech carbon fiber with hollow connecting fiber. The interweaving of the different fibers results in a very true feeling reed. The weave of the fibers is designed to emulate natural cane in ways that no other synthetic reed can. The Carbon fiberreeds reproduce the tendencies of natural cane to be very strong towards the outside (the bark) and more resonant yet not soft at the heart, while being very flexible at the vamp. The result is a very full sound with direct response and a beaming upper register. The top choice of pop and jazz musicians.

These are expensive but they play great. Loud, clean, accurate. It appears that a down side of fibre reeds is saliva buildup in the mouthpiece...cane absorbs some moisture. I have tried several other fibre reeds and this was by far the best.
In the product pic is shown a reed with a nice V- shaped heart, that's why i ordered them What I got were reeds with "O" heart at all which were cut straight across with no heart The reed played GREAT until you start the altissimo then it completely fades because there is no heart in the reed to support the altissimo vibration variance. THE REED HAD NO V-SHAPED HEART as shown in the pic. I tried the Med Hard on my Guardala MBII and it was too soft. I tried the Fibracell 4.5 and it SMOKED this reed hands down in all registers. If HH reeds had a V-shaped heart they would be superior to the Fibracells, but they don't. Reed is great below high F, but it's usless to me who plays all night above high F.
I have bought 4 of these reeds now. Overall they play well with lots of control especially for swing/jazz. My concerns with them are two fold: 1. Manufacturing seems inconsistent....two of the reeds have had "burrs" on them when the lip sits on the reed (on first use) and have had to not be used. 2. There seems to be no translation of Med = 3 or whatever....so it is hard to know what strength to buy.
After playing this reed for a week, I'm lovin' it. It plays easily, responds lightening fast and simply sounds great. Watch out rhythm section, now I can blow over you. I found out I had to experiment with different types of ligatures and placement of the reed on the mouthpiece table to achieve the right sound and feel. I could never get the sound, intensity, focus and feel for my horn like I'm getting now. The price of the reed is nothing compared to how much fun playing will be. I highly recommend HH Carbon Fiberreed. I am now a member of the cane mutiny. Good luck!
I haven't yet tried the standard HH reeds, but this Carbon version is amazing. I prefer it on both my Soprano and Tenor. Like many, I have HATED synthetic reeds for various reasons. However, this synthetic sounds/feels real, is easy to play, and reliable. Contrary to another review, the HH Carbon fits very well on my narrow-faced Couf metal mouthpiece. If I were an environmentalist, I'd prohibit the use of cane reeds and require all saxophonists to use the HH Carbon reed. JOKING, of course.
I have some problems with picking the right size for me so I started custom cutting the right sound I needed to hear for me, so I can control the highs and the lows best for me. I notice that some sizes are good for the lows and some sizes are good the highs so this is way I do this. But over all the reeds last much longer only if you take care of them the right way like removing them and cleaning and drying them after each play time. (SAXYNEIL)
