The first thing I noticed about this reed was the effortless response in the lower ranges of the horn. I have a 1968 Selmer Alto Mark VI with a D8 Dukoff metal mouthpiece. I was able to put this reed on the horn and begin playing immediately with no break in period whatsoever (on their "medium" hardness). This reed works extremely well on my setup -- perfect intonation, excellent response and projection throughout the range of the horn, and crystal clear tone at any volume. I have been able to get some good overtones with this reed as well. I was previously playing on Bari reeds -- I have no regrets about the switch. While these are about double the price of the Bari reeds, the cost difference is well worth the difference in quality. These reeds are a bit softer than expected -- I would say that their "medium" is somewhere between a 2 1/2 and a 3 for most reed vendors. A medium or medium-hard would probably work well for most setups. I bought two of these at the same time, and they were both of equal quality and fully interchangeable. I would highly recommend this product to others. If you can handle the cost, you will not be sorry for trying these reeds!
I am still playing the same Fiberreed that I bought about 5 years ago, and it's still in good shape. Just now reordering to replace it. I play at least two days per week. These are wonderful...you can jump into a song cold and it plays like you've had time to warm up. Durable, flexible, not like a plastic reed at all. They never warp. Feels even better than a cane reed. I highly recommend. It's worth the money when you consider how long I've owned just this one reed!
