Originally hand-crafted by a gifted young silversmith, Haynes continues to create flutes and piccolos that reflect the very same unmistaken passion for excellence... over a century later. William S. Haynes, son of a sea captain and a Virginia school teacher, opened his flutemaking shop in historic Boston in 1888. From the onset, Haynes labored tirelessly to improve the unique sound of his instrument, experimenting with materials, mechanics, and headjoint design.
Today, a dynamic group of true artisans strive to perpetuate this coveted heritage. As a result, the Wm. S. Haynes Company preserves the recognized position of world leader in craftsmanship and innovative design.

Comments about Haynes Handmade Drawn Tonehole Model Professional Flute:
I purchased the inline Haynes Classic Model with drawn tone holes, gold riser and B foot from Woodwind Brasswind a year ago to have as a back-up for my $12,000 hand made Powell with soldered tone holes and gold lip plate. I was so impressed with this Haynes that it is now my main flute for all my playing gigs and the Powell is now my back-up. The notes in the upper register just sail out so pure and sweet that it sounds like I am playing on a gold flute. The action on the flute is every bit as good as the Powell, if not better! I am now a Haynes fan, through and through.
