Headway "The Band" Cello Pickup System
"The Band" Cello Pickup is a compact, durable, and easy-to-install pickup system. The Band can electrify any cello without the need for modifications to the instrument itself.

The Band offers far greater volume levels before feedback, compared to mikes. And you can avoid being tied down to mike stands.

Headway's "The Band" further cuts feedback, bowing noise, body noise, and excessive treble by acoustic filter.

The unique "Band" speeds soundchecks and minimizes the cluttered and unreliable equipment needed to set up and transport.

Most importantly, it offers increased headroom (volume) before feedback, enabling problem free monitoring at modest to high volumes.

Attachment is by Velcro strips to position the pickup just behind the bridge. Attaches and detaches in minutes.

"Great sound, easy install"

I've been using The Band on my cello for performances with my rock group and loved the natural sound that it gets; much more representative of the instrument than bridge pickups are. Since they're so easy to put on and take off, everyone in my string quartet owns one and we've used them not only for rock/fiddle gigs but to boost our sound for outdoor classical concerts too!

I have been using The Band for about 2 years now. Previously I was using a barcus barry that attached directly to the bridge. I personally prefer the band and haven't touched my barcus but you'll have to make the decision for yourself. The bridge-attaching style of pickups get a crisp, clean tone that doensn't include much of the resonance of the instrument. They are more permenant, feedback isn't an issue and the sound is a good clean start to add effects to. I really appreciate that The Band catches the more resonant sound of the cello and less of the extraneous noise that would die off if you were listening to the cello in a large room (knocks, bow scratching...) The sound, to me, is much more native to what I think of as a "good cello sound". Since less than 5% of my performances are wired, I appreciate being able to put on and remove the pickup easily. The downside is that it will feed back a little more easily in a very loud setting, such as a full-on rock band. When I play "acoustic rock," not too loud rock or on an outdoor festival stage The Band is great. If I did monthly/weekly gigs in clubs or practice with my heavy rock band in garage, I would break out the Barcus. Then again, how many heavy rock bands want a cellist?
