I have used this stand for 2 years now and it is wonderful ... light, yet strong, Fits safely into the bell of my Yamaha tenor. I expected a flimsy stand that was a necessity for my travel needs, but have been very pleased with the stand's strength, versatility and moderate price. i highly recommend this product.
Also forgot to mention that the fit of the stand in the ball varies. It is not recommended for small bore tenor trombones as it will stick out the bell, unless the case is big enough to accumulate the extra length. For Bass trombones, the stand will be deeper in the bell and there will be space between the stand and case end. Putting in a foam or something of the sort can help limit movement. The stand also includes a velvet bag for the stand to limit any scratches within the bell
If you are a trombone player you should get one. Right out of the box I was able to get it up and standing, and put my little tenor trombone on it. Tore it down, put it in my horn and put it in my case. It fit perfectly (with the tuning slide down of course). It also fits very well with my tenor with the F attachment. Again, nice and snug, and plenty of room to spare. My being a music major I often have many different horns out at any given moment. I hate having to just 'set down' an instrument. So having the stand is vital. I would highly recommend this one stand because it fits within the trombone and is then easily totted along without even noticing its weight. Again, 5 Stars.
This thing worked great for a while, then the pinch lever that holds the top cup to the vertical pole started to slip, banging my King 3B slide on the bumper on the end crook. Now this is NOT a heavy horn, and this should never have happend.
It also happed with my Bach 42BO w/F attach., which is a much heavier horn.
Finally it has even fallen with my little .484 slide bore Conn 18H. It only fits in a few bells in the case, and makes the front end of your case weigh a ton when you carry it.
By far the worst stand I have used; and it was fairly expensive. TWO THUMBS DOWN!!!!!!
I bought this stand when I needed somewhere to put my trombone during the long resting periods that occur frequently when playing in a pit orchestra. I found that the stand supported my tenor trombone just fine. Putting the stand together was no trouble either, once I got the hang of it. When I switched instruments to a Bach Stradivarius and a Conn 88h, the stand still held my instruments true and true.
However, right off the bat, the main neck of the stand seemed pretty rusty and hard to pull out when setting up the stand. This has gotten worse and worse over the two years that I have had the stand. There's still nothing wrong with the way the stand holds my trombones, but I'm worried about what the rust might lead to the malfunctioning of my stand, endangering the safety of my instruments.
