Comments about Hiscox Cases Pro II Series Alto Sax Case:
After reading all the hype about the Hiscox cases and checking out forum chatter, I ordered this case for my son's alto. The case appears to be limited as to which model horns fit. My son's French Vito alto was not a sure fit. The octave key was compressed and the only way to avoid it was to slide the horn in at an angle with the bell up, then turning the bell down into the case. Also the case interior is not squishy as the Protec ProPac case. Cases with stiff interiors can cause damage to horns if the case is dropped or subjected to some sort of shock. I wonder if this case can truly protect a saxophone, especially when the fit is tight. I found the fit in this instance quite tight. I was able to test out 3 different horns--Vintage French Vito Model 38 and 39 and a Selmer Mark 6. I was not impressed with fit for any of these horns. While I preferred purchasing a non-Chinese built case and prefer to keep my purchases to USA or European built products, this case is being returned. While the exterior of the case may be very sturdy to withstand some one standing on it, it is not the quality of the Walt Johnson cases or the Torpedo cases for trumpets. Lastly, I was not impressed with the quality control. The fabric near the hinge had glue showing and was poorly secured and this was the 2nd Hiscox case I tried.
