Product Description
Hite
Although marketed as student line mouthpieces, PREMIERES are used by many professionals because of their rich sound and flexibility. These mouthpieces are extremely popular as "step-up" mouthpieces for players who would benefit from a better mouthpiece but are put off by the higher prices.
Product Overview and Specifications
HITE PREMIER

Description
The efficiency of the facing design and the accuracy of the finishing make PREMIERE alto and tenor saxophone mouthpieces ideal all around mouthpieces. They are extremely versatile, capable of producing a variety of tonal colors for a variety of musical styles. Each model is produced with one preferred facing.

Medium or medium hard reeds cut with a strong center and thinner sides (such as the Rico Jazz Select, LaVoz or Vandoren Java) work well with the overall mouthpiece and facing design.

I've been playing a J&D Hite Artist mouthpiece on tenor since 1993. It was a mouthpiece epiphany--I'd never heard of Hite, my former go-to sax guy in Maine recommended I try it, and once I did, I never looked back at the Otto Link STM I'd grown up playing. So when I got back into alto recently, it was a no-brainer to get the Artist alto. Disappointed that they were then out of stock, in a fit of impatience and budget consciousness, I purchased the Premier as Plan B. Wow. Just wow. I have and will continue to recommend to anyone who'll listen to always keep the Rico Royal Series in mind--those do provide a very inexpensive opportunity to explore a surprisingly good-performing mouthpiece in a range of chamber sizes and facings, and this variety is not available in the Hite Premiere. That said, I would / will / do recommend the Hite Premiere with enthusiasm. Simply put, this is an incredibly versatile mouthpiece. Learning players will find in the Hite Premiere, for a very modest purchase price (about a third of the cost of the Artist!), something that they can develop good habits on and continue to play on with confidence as they develop and grow as players. I think advanced players unaware of this piece would be quite surprised with the Premiere's performance. Woodwind teachers should absolutely be aware of these and include them in their mouthpiece recommendations to their students. I still haven't even bothered to go back and buy the back-in-stock Hite Artist alto piece. THAT'S how impressive this humble little sub-$30 piece is!
