Incredibly responsive mouthpiece coupled with total control, and an open big fat sound. I cannot believe it! For the money this mouthpiece costs, it performs better than the more expensive, fancy name "Pro" alternatives. Do you want a great sound and lots of control over your playing? Get this mouthpiece and SAVE a lot of money!
I've been playing a J&D Hite Artist mouthpiece on tenor since 1993. It was a mouthpiece epiphany--I'd never heard of Hite, my former go-to sax guy in Maine recommended I try it, and once I did, I never looked back at the Otto Link STM I'd grown up playing. So when I got back into alto recently, it was a no-brainer to get the Artist alto. Disappointed that they were then out of stock, in a fit of impatience and budget consciousness, I purchased the Premier as Plan B. Wow. Just wow. I have and will continue to recommend to anyone who'll listen to always keep the Rico Royal Series in mind--those do provide a very inexpensive opportunity to explore a surprisingly good-performing mouthpiece in a range of chamber sizes and facings, and this variety is not available in the Hite Premiere. That said, I would / will / do recommend the Hite Premiere with enthusiasm. Simply put, this is an incredibly versatile mouthpiece. Learning players will find in the Hite Premiere, for a very modest purchase price (about a third of the cost of the Artist!), something that they can develop good habits on and continue to play on with confidence as they develop and grow as players. I think advanced players unaware of this piece would be quite surprised with the Premiere's performance. Woodwind teachers should absolutely be aware of these and include them in their mouthpiece recommendations to their students. I still haven't even bothered to go back and buy the back-in-stock Hite Artist alto piece. THAT'S how impressive this humble little sub-$30 piece is!
I have been using this mouthpiece for the better part of 5 years and found it to be a great mouthpiece not only in concert band and jazz, but it also stands up well to the abuses of marching band.. It has carried me from high school through my first year in college. Definitely worth every penny and more..
I won't pretend to be smarter about mouthpieces than the next guy. What I do know is that I've been playing a Hite Premiere for about 14 years now and I find it to be an excellent mouthpiece at an amazing price. I would definitely recommend it. There are rare times when I will use a 7* metal mouthpiece for extra projection or to hit some altissimo notes. However my Hite Premier is my workhorse mouthpiece. Week after week it gives me a great sound across the range of my horn without a fuss. I don't think I can ask much more of a mouthpiece than that.
this is an exlent mouthpiece at first when i tried it i saw a slightly better sound tone i was unimpressed but after a week there was a huge sound differnce there was ar richer deeper jazzy tone i loved it i tryed it on a as300 selmer and a keilwerth st 90 i found the best tone with the keilwerth but my selmer was broken at the time and wouldit play right so i highly recomend this mouthpiece to all levels of expirence from begginer to pro this is an exlent moutpiece!
