Well, not really--secretly I hoped for immediate genius transformation in my very beginner self taught abilities. I had almost given up after two weeks trying to get good sound out of an older used student Jupiter with slightly damaged mouthpiece. With my new Hite, I can actually play in the lower two registers, anyway, using a Rico Royal 3 reed. The nifty case means I can protect the mouthpiece from the kind of dings that ruined the mouthpiece that came with the Jupiter.
Being without a teacher, I rely alot on internet, etc. It was the reviews on this site helped me understand that even tho the seller was able to demo the instrument and get decent sounds, she was probably able to compensate for the mouthpiece issues, whereas as a beginner I hadn't a chance. And of course I appreciate the quick shipping and great packaging. Thank you.
My first clarinet had Selmer Goldentone #3 which was easy to master, yet my teacher found it too "bright". Got a Yamaha 4C which has a great darker tone yet was harder to blow. Finally I awarded myself a Hite Premiere, and despite having tried other "better" mouthpieces, I still consider my Premiere the best for me. Easy articulation, not too hard nor too soft, just great. It's not the end of squeaks but definitely the end of hisses.
A Rovner"dark" ligature works perfectly, and together with Mitchell Lurie #3 reeds you have a winning combination. I think I buy a second one, just to have a backup in case...
As a music teacher, I'm eager to make sure my young woodwind players are having fun as well as producing a good sound. The Premier by Hite clarinet mouthpiece provides excellent 'blow ability' as well as a nice, strong, clear sound. Students usually find instant 'success' when they transition to this mouthpiece. Flexible enough to accommodate classical playing (open bottom end, nice clear high notes) as well as jazz performance (like glissando and solo work), the Premiere - when combined with a Rover 1R ligature, has become 'standard issue' in my music practice.
I wanted a good, high quality mouthpiece, but didn't want to pay a fortune. This mouthpiece is exactly what I was looking for. The price is unheard of, and the high notes easily come out without struggles.
This is a great mouthpiece for early students just learning how easily a mouthpiece can break. Beginners break mouthpieces, that's just what they do, and it's great to have an okay quality mouthpiece for the first couple months of playing. But do switch mouthpieces after this time. I learned the hard way. I got a Buffet R13 clarinet and I still played on this mouthpiece. I found that playing got very exhausting when I got into harder pieces of music. My private teacher recommended me the Vandoren M13. That has made all the difference to me. I realized that the premier gave me absolutely no control over my own playing. The M13 and M13 Lyre are much easier to play on, especially for young players. My advice is to let them play on the premier until they break it. This teaches them a lesson. Then buy them a better mouthpiece.
